WHAT WOULD YOU DO? At last we have started working on our outdoor stone-scaping project. Took a while to find the right contractor, but the biggest frustration was a guy last fall who we went through several rounds of drawings and material selection with. We were almost ready to start digging when he disappeared with no reply to my texts or emails. Months later I reached out to him again and he said he wanted to move forward in the spring. Then he disappeared for two more months. He had a hernia operation which is a valid explanation for not doing the work...but not a valid explanation for not communicating. Last week he send me an email asking me to pay him for his initial drawings. I am honestly unsure exactly how to respond. While I appreciate the work he did, I am surprised he has the nerve to ask for money after he abandoned us with no reply to my communication. While we are using one of his general ideas for the placement of a patio, nothing else from his design is being utilized. His designs were never shared or utilized by the new person. Maybe the real value he should receive from me is check for $1 as a lesson that he needs to treat his customers better.
