WHAT? Why have I never heard this story and how it relates to the naming of the New Jersey Devils hockey team! For the past 200 years, the state of New Jersey has been plauged by a monster discribed as a hideous mixture of several animals. The Jersy Devil, also known by its old name of Leeds Devil, is described as having a kangaroo body, dog head, horse face and hooves, bat wings and a forked tail. It has red eyes that glow with an intensity that can paralyze a person. Farmers have said that it killed their animals and caused crops ro fail. In 1909 so many sightings were reported that officials in those areas closed schools and factories. Some people even belived the Jersey Devils appearance meant a great tragedy was about to occur because he was sighted just before the American Revolution and the Civil War. Although the creature is still seen, locals are now proud of their monster, whose name is worn by the New Jersey Devils professional hockey team.
