WHAT’S GOIN ON HERE????? It’s been yet another wacky week in the way of our sports scene here in the metropolitan New York City area……. The Yankees have gone on a burst to win 10 out of 13 games and solidify their place in the wild card race only 4 games out of a post season spot,,,,,,,Oddly enough when Alex Rodriguez was intentionally plunked by the hated Deadsox Ryan Dempster not only did the Bombers come back and win that game but the event has seemed to galvanize the team and given them a purpose…….The Yankees have won series against Detroit, Los Angeles, Boston and Toronto and take on another division rival, the Tampa Bay Rays this weekend……There is little margin for error and Joe Girardi must continue to make all the right moves as CC, Andy, and Hughes continue to be major disappointments on the mound,,,,,without question this is Girardi’s best managing job ever. David Diehl of the NY Giants will be out of action up to 6 weeks with a hand injury…..it seems this might be the time to relegate Diehl to back up status if not an outright cut….he has had 2 miserable games so far in the preseason he was not good last year and I am sure the Giants front office was not too happy with his off season…..fortunately for Giants they have had experience juggling their offensive line in the past but the injury to Baas at center bears worth watching---the offensive line needs to be 5 guys working together and Big Blue takes on Gang Green this week with 2 of 5 having new faces Speaking of Gang Green Mark Sanchez clearly does not have it ……he was pitiful again last week and it is hard to believe how careless he is with the football, I mean that was the one thing you know he was told to work on in the offseason and so far each game has seem at least one ridiculous interception and the 3 plays just before halftime last week were plays high school quarterbacks would not make,,,,before week 6 of the upcoming regular season Sanchez will not be the Jets starting quarterback We will find out this week exactly how good the Mets pitching staff is and Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and the rest of the Tigers take on the Flushing Flounderers at Citi Field It will be interesting to see how Harvey and the Boyz matchup ON A MUSICAL NOTE we report the passing of Jazz Great George Duke at the age of 67. Simply put a great keyboardist songwriter, singer and producer Duke worked with everyone from Frank Zappa to Deniece Williams. His 1979 release Master of the Game is one of my all time favorites and one of my 5 best start to finish cd’s. He left us way too soon.
