WHAT’S ON MY MIND? 10/13/15 LET IT RAIN!! In I Kings 18:41 it says that Elijah said to Ahab “Go up eat and drink for there is the sound of abundance of rain.” God had spoken prior to this moment to Elijah that he was to go present himself to Ahab and God was going to send rain upon the earth. There had been no rain for three and a half years. Needless to say the land was in much need of the rain. I spent a lot of my early years growing up in England. I loved the rainy days. Everything after the rainfall looked greener, the air smelled so clean. I found the rainfall comforting. Watching from the window, it felt nice to be dry and cozy inside our home. Elijah had been given a word that God was going to send rain upon the earth. All of a sudden he heard the sound. We know it was a spiritual sound because of the events that occurred after this statement to Ahab!! Elijah proceeded to go up to the top of Mt. Carmel and bowed down on the ground and put his face between his knees. Obviously Elijah was in a position of prayer. He told his servant “go look up toward the sea and tell me if you see anything.” This servant returned and told Elijah that there was “Nothing.” I wonder how many times we receive a word from God and never realize that we also have to stay in a position of prayer to receive the manifestation of that word. Not only did that servant return to say there was nothing manifest but Elijah sent him back seven times. I loved Elijah’s persistence!! He determined he was NOT going to give up!! The seventh time he returned and told Elijah that he saw a cloud the size of a man’s hand rising out of the sea!! Elijah knew the sound that he heard earlier was now going to come into manifestation!! He told Ahab to “Prepare your chariot, and go down before the rain stops you.” I want you to ask yourself how many promises of God still need your persistent prayer to see them come into manifestation. What would have happened had Elijah given up the 3rd or 4th time? There would have been no rainfall upon that drought in the land. In addition Elijah moved in faith when he asked Ahab to prepare his chariot. Remember all that he had seen was a small cloud rising. God tells us in James that faith without corresponding action is dead! It took the persistence of prayer AND the step of faith to bring it to pass. What area of your life do you need it to rain? Never give up on God’s Word; HE never gives up on you!! Food for thought!! Pastor Dianne Coflin Co-Pastor River of Life Church, Lutz,Florida
