WHEN AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED I woke up, Lying On foreign soil, Surrounded By alien trees, Thick upon the ground, Muttering In amazement And concern. There were some birds, Flying In formation, Scales instead of feathers. I saw no other creatures In my vicinity. Perhaps, Out of sight For now, I would find Some signs Of mammalian life. There was a stream. I looked at my reflection. I had changed. My skin was green, Devoid of hair. Like the birds A coat of scales. My mouth was small. No teeth. No flesh Would pass that way. There were two Powerhouses In the purple sky, Suns supplying Energy for all life Clothed in Chloroform. The arthropods Were huge. Giant insects Also green, Building their nests, Free of hostile Intent. I hoped that I would find Others of my kind, Whatever that was. I looked around me Perhaps this time God had created a world Which was better Than his previous attempt, Where life would not prey On life, Where harmony Would prevail. In the other world, Only strength, Violence, greed, The need to dominate In order to survive, Prevailed. What motivated Survival On this alternate world, In this alternate universe? There was much To learn. I felt no fear. I was overwhelmed By wonder.
