WHEN GOD WINKED ON CHARLIE BROWN Charles Schultz, the creator - TopicsExpress

WHEN GOD WINKED ON CHARLIE BROWN Charles Schultz, the creator of the lovable Charlie Brown comic strip characters, received a bad medical report. That caused him to make a difficult decision: to stop providing his comic strip to newspapers in 75 countries all around the world. In a departure for that must have been as difficult as Jay Leno signing off from his last Tonight show, Charles Schultz drew his final comic strip for that Sunday morning, February 13, 2000. Charlie Brown and friends would be no more. [OPTION - You can watch this story here: hulu/watch/141337#i3,p0,d2] Schultz decided he’d write a little epitaph for all his characters. This is what it said: “Dear Friends, I have been fortunate to draw Charlie Brown and his friends for almost 50 years. It has been the fulfillment of my childhood ambition. I have been grateful over the years for the loyalty of our editors and the wonderful support and love expressed to me by fans of the comic strip. Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Linus, Lucy…how can I ever forget them.” Charles Schultz. But that morning readers BECAME CONFUSED. You see, as they opened the Cartoon Section they ALSO heard the news on TV that Charles Schultz, BY REMARKABLE COINCIDENCE, had died during the night. The epitaph that he had written FOR THE STRIP … became HIS OWN. •••• Charles Schultz’ GODWINK was a message to the living. That’s what godwinks are at times of sorrow ... communications of reassurance from above. In my book When God Winks where the Charles Schultz story appeared, I wrote this thought: “Godwinks are loving messages meant to reassure you that life is not a continuum, but a circle and that connections to loved ones are never lost.” Good wishes and godwinks.
