WHEN PRAYER DOESN’T WORK All you can possibly need is found in the magic of his majesty Does God hear our prayers? Is it possible that, at times, he simply refuses to entertain our petitions? One of the most frequent questions I have to try to answer is WHY DOESN’T PRAYER WORK? If what you mean, when asking that question, is why doesn’t prayer work for ME, the answer becomes much simpler. There are many reasons why prayer might not work for a particular individual but basically speaking it is a question without substance. Prayer does work and it always works. The problem is not prayer but YOU! When God speaks and we don’t hear, more than likely, the problem is, in the receiver. Sometimes, I think, we believe that God delights in frustrating us with unfamiliar answers. But, God is not the author of confusion. With God there is no variableness or shadow of turning. Its not that we live in utter rejection of truth but when `our way’ fails, and it will, we see Gods way as strange and unusual. I love the song HOW GREAT THOU ART because it doesn’t waste time explaining – it just exclaims. God is not as silent as he may seem. If we would just pick the fruit from the garden of his grace we would see that abundance is his M.O. Years ago there was a song entitled “it’s me, oh Lord, standing in the need of prayer”. It’s as though we are standing in a room full of hundred dollar bills and we are wondering how we’re going to meet our financial obligations. Instead of playing the game of life we need to practice the winners circle. When answers are few and far between we need to run into the arms of the Almighty. The world is silenced in the presence of the Savior. Find a secret place where you can shut the door to all interference and all you need will be found in the magic of his majesty. WHEN PRAYER DOESN’T WORK Jer. 33:3 – call unto me, and I will answer, … Does God hear when we knock on heavens door? When we pray can the heavens be silent forevermore What happens when we pray and the answers just not plain? When the heavens are strangely silent – how do we explain? We look for an answer or someone to blame With limited success all we experience is just more pain We know it’s not Gods fault but we think its not our own But it’s very true; life is the result of seed we have sown The sun rises and sets and another day is gone Things haven’t changed from daylight to dawn There seems to be no relief from all that’s wrong So we ignore life and learn to play along But God has made promises that cannot be denied The problem is the predicament of the heart – its all inside Answers from above are ignored and all hope dies When I say what he has said, his promise becomes mine Prayer is not a magic wand that works on occasion Talent is not mandatory nor is organization If it were so it would lead to utter frustration All we need do is call on God in simple conversation Life is not difficult, but we are for sure We expect nothing and learn to endure But God has said come and dine, the table is set And when you’re done there will be no debt R.L.
