WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS COME.. I WELCOME YOU TO THE 11 STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST, TONIGHT. AND WE HAVE VISITORS WITH US AND WERE GLAD TO SEE YOU. AND CERTAINLY WITH THE SPIRIT OF GLADNESS THAT WE COME TOGETHER ON OCCASIONS SUCH AS THIS, AS THE PSALMIST EXPLAINED Ps 122:1 I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD. WERE GLAD YOU ARE HERE TONIGHT AND IF YOU’RE VISITING WITH US AND YOU’RE NOT A MEMBER OF THE BODY OF CHRIST, WE ARE ESPECIALLY GLAD THAT YOU HAVE COME AND WE WANT YOU TO FEEL COMFORTABLE AS YOU MAKE YOUR VISIT WITH US WE ENCOURAGE YOU TO GET YOUR BIBLES AND OPEN ITS PAGES AND SEARCH THE SCRIPTURES WITH US THAT YOU MIGHT KNOW FROM WHENSE THESE THINGS COME. I REMIND YOU THAT I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY OTHER THAN THAT WHICH IS FOUND WRITTEN ON THE PAGES OF THIS VOLUME, THE PSALMIST SAID IN PSALM 33:4 Ps 33:4 for the word of the LORD is right IF WHAT WE BELIEVE, TEACH AND PRACTICE IS ACCORDING TO THE LORDS WORD THEN IT IS RIGHT AND IT CANNOT BE WRONG. BUT IF IT’S CONTRARY TO THE WORD OF THE LORD, IT IS WRONG AND AND IT CANNOT BE RIGHT. WE WANT TO ENCOURAGE YOU THEN TO INVESTIGATE THE THINGS THAT ARE SAID, AND MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE WORD OF THE LORD. I DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION TONIGHT TO THE BOOK OF ACTS CHAPTER 2 AS A BASIS FOR OUR STUDY TOGETHER. IN VS 1 LUKE THE INSPIRED HISTORIAN REPORTS Ac 2:1 and when the day of Pentecost was fully come, THAT’S WHAT I WANT TO TALK TO US ABOUT FOR JUST A FEW MOMENTS THIS EVENNG. WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS COME. I CALL YOUR ATTENTION FIRST OF ALL TO THE FACT THAT PENTECOST IS NOT THE NAME OF A CHURCH BUT IS A DAY. NO WHERE IN THE BIBLE IS THE CHURCH EVER REFERED TO BY THE TERM PENTECOST. LET ME SUGGEST TO YOU SOMETHINGS ABOUT PENTECOST THE DAY. THE TERM PENTECOST IS STRICTLY A NEW TESTAMENT TERM. OCCURING 3 TIMES IN THE TESTAMENT OF CHRIST, THE FIRST OF WHICH OCCURS IN ACTS 2:1 WHICH WE JUST NOTICED. AND THEN ACTS 20:16 AND IN 1 COR. 16:8 ITS ONE OF THE 3 ANNUAL FEAST DAYS OF THE JEWS. RECORDED IN THE BOOK OF DEUT. 16:16 WHEN MOSES SAID Dt 16:16 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God In the place which he shall choose; In the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, And in the feast of tabernacles: And they shall not appear before the LORD empty: ITS ALSO IS REFERED TO AS THE FEAST OF THE HARVEST. IN EXODUS 23:16 Ex 23:16 and the feast of harvest, the first fruits of thy labors, which thou hast sown in the field: and the feast of ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when thou hast gathered in thy labors out of the field. Ex 23:17 Three times in the year all thy males shall appear before the Lord GOD. IT CALLED THE DAY OF THE FIRST FRUITS IN NUMBERS 28:26 Nu 28:26 Also in the day of the first fruits, when ye bring a new meat offering unto the LORD, after your weeks be out, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: AND THE FEAST OF WEEKS. IN LEVITCUS 23 BEGINNING IN VS 15 IT IS WRITTEN Lev 23:15 and ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the Sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven Sabbaths shall be complete: Lev 23:16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh Sabbath Shall ye number fifty days; And ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD. THATS WHERE THE TERM GETS IT MEANING. PENTECOST THE 50 DAY. PENTECOST CAME 50 DAYS AFTER THE PASSOVER, YOU COUNT 7 SABBATHS, 7X7 IS 49, AND THEN YOU ADD ON THE MORROW WHICH GIVVES YOU 50, AND SO PENTECOST CAME 50 DAYS AFTER THE PASS OVER. IT CAME ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE WEEK. NOW THE DAY OF PENTECOST AS RECORDED IN ACTS THE SECOND CHAPTER, IS A SIGNIFICANT PENTECOST. IT’S THE FIRST PENTCOST FOLLOWING THE RESSURRECTION AND ASSENTION OF OUR LORD. AND THERE ARE A NUMBER OF THINGS THAT CAME WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS COME. IN A VERY BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME TONIGHT ID LIKE TO POINT OUT FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION 5 THINGS THAT CAME WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS COME. 450 AS RECORDED IN ACTS THE SECOND CHAPTER. 1. THE FIRST THING THAT CAME WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS COME IS THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER CAME. IM GOING TO TAKE YOU TO THE BOOK OF LUKE CHAPER 24 FOR JUST A MOMENT. YOU MAY RECALL THAT WHEN OUR LORD WAS ASSEMBLE WITH THE APOSTLES IN THE MOUNTAIN OF GALIEE, HE INSTRUCTED THEM TO TARRY IN THE CITY OF JERUSALEM. TO WAIT FOR THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER, UNTIL YOU BE ENDUED WITH POWER FROM ON HIGH. Lk 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high. IN THE BOOK OF ACTS CHAPTER 1:2 BEGINNING AT VS 2 WE FIND REFERENCE TO THIS WHEN THE BIBLE TALKS ABOUT Ac 1:2 the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen: Ac 1:3 To whom also he showed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God: Ac 1:4 and, being assembled together with them, Commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, But wait for the promise of the Father, Which, saith he, ye have heard of me. DOES THAT SOUND FAMILIAR, THAT A REFERENCE BACK TO LUKE 24:49 IN WHICH WE JUST READ TOGETHER. NOTICE AGAIN VS. 4-5 JESUS BEING ASSEMBLE TOGETHER WITH THE APOSTLES INSTRUCTED THEM TO WAIT FOR THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER Ac 1:4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. Ac 1:5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. SO THEY ARE WAITING IN JERUSALEM FOR THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. AND THIS SCRIPTURE ALSO POINT OUT THE LIMITATIONS OF THE PROMISE OF HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM. IF YOU WILL NOTICE IN OUR TEXT THAT IT IS LIMITED AS TO PERSONS. TO WHOM WAS THIS PROMISE GIVEN? NOTICE IN VS 2 THE BIBLE SAY UNTO THE APOSTLES, IF YOU HAVE YOUR BIBLE WITH YOU. UNDERSCORE THE APOSTLES. NOW NOTICE THE CONTEXT, WILL ONLY ALLOW FOR THE PROMISE BEING MADE TO THE APOSTLES. YOU HAVE TO CIRCLE THE PRONOUNS, LIKE IN VS 3 TO WHOM VS, 4 THEM, THEY TO WHOM DOES THEM AND THEY AND WHOM REFER TO? IT REFERES TO THE APOSTLES. BUT ALSO IT’S NOT ONLY LIMITED AS TO PERSONS BUT AS TO PLACE. WHERE WOULD THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER BE RECIEVED? IN JERUSALEM. LOOK AT VS. 4 THEY WERE NOT TO DEPART FROM JERUSALEM. BUT WAIT FOR THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER. AND SO I WOULD ENCOURAGE YOU TO UNDERSCORE THE WORD “JERUSALEM”. BUT ALSO THE PROMISE IS LIMITED AS TO PERIOD. WHEN WOULD THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER, THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT BE RECIEVED? IN VS 5 THE BIBLE SAYS “NOT MANY DAY HENSE”. AND SO THAT LIMITS IT AS TO PERIOD. BUT ALSO IT’S LIMITED AS TO PURPOSE. WHAT THE PURPOSE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT COMING UPON THE APOSTLES? IN VS 8 JESUS SAID, Ac 1:8 but ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. AND SO THE PURPOSE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM UPON THE APOSTLES WAS TO IMPOWER THEM “TO BEAR WITNESS OF CHRIST”. AND SO BE IMPRESSED TONIGHT WITH THE LIMITATIONS OF THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER. LIMITED AS TO PERSONS, PLACE, PERIOD, AND PURPOSE. NOW THERE ARE THOSE TODAY WHO EXPECT THE BELIEVERS TONIGHT TO RECIEVE HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM. THEY HAVE THE WRONG PERSON, THE WRONG PLACE, THE WRONG PERIOD, AND THE WRONG PURPOSE. NOW WE REALIZE HOPEFULLY THAT SAN BERNARDINO CAL. IS NOT JERUSALEM. AND JERUSALEM IS NOT SAN BERNARDINO. AND WE ARE MANY DAYS HENSE, AND WE DO NOT HAVE ANY APOSTLES, FOR NONE ARE QUALIFIED. ACCORDING TO ACTS CHAPTER 1:21-23 NONE HAS SEEN THE LORD, AND IF MEN TODAY RECIEVED IT WHAT PURPOSE WOULD IT SERVE? THE PURPOSE OF HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM UPON THE APOSTLES WAS TO EMPOWER THEM. TO BEAR WITNESS OF CHRIST. IN JOHN 15:26 JESUS SAID, Jn 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: Jn 15:27 And ye also shall bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning. NOW HOW MANY OF US HAVE BEEN WITH HIM FROM THE BEGINNING? WERE NOT QUALIFIED TO BEAR WITNESS OF CHRIST. YOU HEAR FOLKS IN THE RELIGIOUS WORLD TALKING ABOUT WITNESSING, BEARING WITNESS, WERE NOT WITNESSES, WE SIMPLY REPEAT THE TESTIMONY OF THE WITNESSES. IN JOHN CHAPTER 1:34 JOHN SAID, Jn 1:34 And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God. THAT’S A DEVINE DEFINITION OF A WITNESS. A WITNESS IS ONE WHO SEES AND BEARS RECORD, WHERE NOT WITNESSES OF CHRIST, WE SIMPLY REPEAT THE TESTIMONY OF THE WITNESSES. AND THE PURPOSE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WAS TO GUIDE THE APOSTLES INTO ALL TRUTH. HE SAFE GUARDED THE ACCURATECY OF THEIR TESTIMONY, IT WAS COMPLETE AND INFALLIBLE. IN JOHN CHAPTER 14:16 JESUS SAID Jn 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, That he may abide with you for ever; Jn 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; AND THEN IN VS 26. Jn 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, Whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, And bring all things to your remembrance, Whatsoever I have said unto you. THERE WAS THE TWO FOLD OFFICE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, UPON THE APOSTLES. THE REMINDING OFFICE AND THE REVEALING OFFICE. HE WOULD REMIND THE APOSTLES OF THE THINGS THAT THE LORD TAUGHT THEM WHILE HE WAS AMONG THEM AND THEN HE WOULD TEACH THEM REVEAL THINGS TO THEM THAT THE LORD DID NOT TEACH THEM, WHILE HE WAS AMONG THEM. THEY WOULD HAVE A COMPLETE AND INFALLIBLE RECOLLECTION OF EVERYTHING THE LORD SAID. NOW AS EVIDENSE THAT MEN TONIGHT DO NOT HAVE HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM, DO NOT HAVE WHAT THE APOSTLES RECIEVED, JUST HAVE A LITTLE QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION. THEY OUGHT TO HAVE A COMPLETE AND AN INFALLIBLE RECOLLECTION OF EVERYTHING THE LORD SAID. THEY DONT HAVE WHAT THEY CLAIM TO. THEY ARE NOT THE RIGHT PERSONS, NOT AT THE RIGHT PLACE, THEIR IN THE WRONG PERIOD, AND IT WOULD SERVE THE WRONG PURPOSES. YOU JUST REALIZE THAT AND BE IMPRESSED WITH THAT, AND I WANT YOU TO BE IMPRESSED WITH THE FACT THAT HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM WAS THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER AND THAT WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS COME THE PROMISE CAME. IT WAS RECIEVED BY THE APOSTLES, IN ACT CHAPTER 2: THE BIBLE SAYS BEGINNING IN THE LAST VS. CHAPTER 1:26 At 1:26 and they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; And he was numbered with the eleven apostles. THEY AGAIN REFERS TO THE APOSTLES, Ac 2:3 and there appeared unto them THE APOSTLES, THAT MAY NOT BE GOOD GRAMMER, BUT THAT SAYS IT LKE IT IS. Ac 2:3 and there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. Ac 2:4 and they (THE APOSTLES) Were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, As the Spirit gave them utterance. AND SO WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS COME, THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER CAME. JUST AS PROMISED. THE APOSTLES RECIEVED THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT TO GUIDE THEM INTO ALL THE TRUTH. TO EMPOWER THEM TO BEAR WITNESS OF CHRIST. NOW YOU WILL ENCOUNTER THOSE WHO WILL, WHO HAVE BEEN DELUDED INTO THINKING THAT THE 120 OF ACTS CHAPTER 1 RECIEVED THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN ADDITION TO THE APOSTLES. BUT THE CONTEXT WILL NOT ALLOW FOR THAT, WE HAVE ALREADY ESTABLISHED THE FACT THAT THE PROMISE WAS MADE EXCLUSIVELY TO THE APOSTLES. BUT AS FURTHER EVIDENCCE THAT ONLY THE APOSTLES RECIEVED IT, LOOK AT WHO DID THE SPEAKING ON THIS OCCASION. THE BIBLE SAYS IN VS 4 Ac 2:4 and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, And began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. NOW WHO DID THE SPEAKING ON THIS OCCASION? THE BIBLE SAYS IN VS 6 Ac 2:6 now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. Ac 2:7 and they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? AND THEN VS 11 Ac 2:11 we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God. AND THEN AS YOU DROP DOWN IN THE CONTEXT YOU WILL FIND THAT WHEN THEY WITTNESSED GENUIEN BIBLE TONGUE SPEAKING SPEAKING LANGUAGES THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW AND HAD NOT STUDIED, THEY MARVELED AT THAT, THERE WERE THOSE WHO FALSELY ACCUSED THEM OF BEING DRUNKEN IN VS. 15 AND THE BIBLE SAYS THAT Ac 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, WHO DID THE SPEAKING? PETER STANDING UP WITH THE ELEVEN AND LIFTED UP HIS VOICE. AND NOTICE THAT AT THE SERMONS CONCLUSION THE BIBLE SAYS IN VS 37 Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, And said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? I WONDER WHY THE QUESTION WAS DIRECTED TO PETER AND THE REST OF THE APOSTLES? IT MUST HAVE BEEN THAT THE SPEAKING WAS DONE BY PETER AND THE REST OF THE APOSTLES. REMEMBER THOSE WHO RECIEVED THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER WERE THOSE WHO SPOKE. AND THE ONLY ONES THAT DID THE SPEAKING ON THIS OCCASION ACCORDING TO THE CONTEXT, WERE THE APOSTLES. WE DENY THAT MEN TODAY RECIEVE HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM AS IT WAS PROMISED EXCLUSIVELY TO THE APOSTLES IN JERUSALEM, NOT MANY DAYS HENSE, TO EMPOWER THEM TO BEAR WITNESS OF CHRIST. AND SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT CAME WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS COME WAS THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER. • BUT THEN THERE IS A SECOND THING CAME • WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS COME • AND THAT IS THE FULFILLMENT OF PROPHESY CAME. • • IN YOUR READING OF ACTS THE SECOND CHAPTER YOU WILL FIND THE FULFILLMENT OF THE PROPHESY OF JOEL. IN THE SECOND CHAPTER BACK IN JOEL THE SECOND CHAPTER SOME 830 YRS BEFORE CHRIST, JOEL ANNOUNCED BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD IN VS 28, 1657 Joel 2:28 And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: Joel 2:29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. Joel 2:30 And I will show wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke. Joel 2:31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come. Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered: for in mount Zion and in Jerusalem shall be deliverance, as the LORD hath said, and in the remnant whom the LORD shall call. NOW I WANT YOU TO NOTICE THIS EXPRESSION IN VS 28 I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT. WE FIND THAT SAME EXPRESSION WORD FOR WORD IN THE WISDOM BOOK OF PROVERBS IN CHAPTER 1:23 WHENEVER YOU ENCOUNTER AN EXPRESSION IN YOUR BIBLE THAT MAYBE DIFFICULT TO YOU, IT’S ALWAY A GOOD POLICY TO SEE WHERE THAT EXPRESSION IS USED IN OTHER PLACES IN THE BIBLE, AND SEE IF THAT MIGHT HELP YOU IN YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF THAT PARTICULAR EXPRESSION. IN THE BOOK OF PROVERBS CHAPTER 1:23 IT IS WRITTEN, Pr 1:23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you DOES THAT SEEM FAMILIAR? THAT’S THE SAME EXPRESSION USED BY THE PROPHET IN JOEL 2:28 ILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT. NOW NOTICE IN PROVERBS 1:23 THIS EXPRESSION. Pr 1:23. I will make known my words unto you. WHEN GOD SAID I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRIT THAT HAS TO DO WITH HIM MAKING KNOWN HIS WORDS. THAT’S ALL THAT’S ABOUT. I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. GODS WORD IS GOING TO BE MADE KNOWN UNTO ALL NATIONS. ISA. 2:2-3 FOR ALL FLESH, JOEL IS ANNOUNCING A NEW DAY OF DEVINE REVEALATION. AND THAT’S WHAT WE HAVE COMING TO PASS IN THE BOOK OF ACTS, THE SECOND CHAPTER. WERE NOT LEFT IN THE DARK, TO WONDER WHAT JOEL HAD IN MIND OR WHEN THIS PROPHESY WOULD BE FULFILLED. BECAUSE IN ACTS CHAPTER 2: WHEN THEY WERE ACCUSED OF BEING DRUNK WITH NEW WINE, PETER STOOD UP AND PUT TO REST THAT FALSE SUPPOSITION SAYING. Ac 2:15 for these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. Ac 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; YOU CANNOT GET ANY PLAINER THAN A THIS IS THAT, CAN YOU? AND HE QUOTES FROM JOEL 2:28-32 WHICH WE JUST READ, Ac 2:17 and it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: DREAMS VISIONS AND PROPHESY, WERE MEANS AND METHODS OF DEVINE REVELATION. HE HAS ANNOUNCED A NEW DAY OF DEVINE REVELATION, GODS WORD WOULD BE MADE KNOWN UNTO ALL NATIONS UNTO ALL PEOPLE, ALL FLESH. AND FOR THE FIRST TIME THE GOSPEL IS BEING PREACHED AMONG ALL NATIONS IN THE CITY OF JERUSALEM. Ac 2:18 and on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; And they shall prophesy: Ac 2:19 And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: Ac 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: Ac 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. IT’S INTRESTING THAT THE LORD SAID, I WILL POUR OUT MY SPIRT. OR I WILL MAKE KNOWN MY WORDS, AND THEN PETER SAYS Ac 2:22 ye men of Israel, hear these words; AND SO SOME 800 YRS BEFORE CHRIST, JOEL COULD SPEAK WITH NOTHING IN THE PRESENT UPON WHICH TO BASE HIS DECLARATION OF THINGS TO COME. AND WE CAN OPEN OUR BIBLES TO THE NEW TESTAMENT AND FIND THAT THIS DART OF PROPHESY IS IN THE BULLS EYES. IT CAME TO PASS EXACTLE AS HE SAID IT WOULD. DO YOU THINK THAT’S BY CHANCE? 2113 DO YOU THINK THAT’S BY ACCIDENT? FULFILLED PROPHESY IS ONE OF THE GREATEST EVIDENCES THAT THE VOLUME BEFORE IT THIS IS NOT THE PRODUCT OF MEN BUT IT IS OF DEVINE ORIGINE. THE ONLY WAY THAT JOEL COULD HAVE SAID THAT, IS THAT GOD WAS GUIDING THE PEN OF INSPIRATION, WERE AS PETER EXPRESSED IT IN 2 PETER 1:20 2Pe 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 2Pe 1:21 for the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost WHEN I READ IN ACTS THE SECOND CHAPTER AND IN OTHER PLACE OF FULFILLED PROPHESY IT REAFFIRMS MY CONVICTION THAT THIS VOLUME AS PAUL SAID, 2Ti 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable AND WE NEED TO HAVE THAT RE-INFORCED, BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY FORCES AT WORK TONIGHT TO UNDERMINE OUR CONFIDENCE IN THE AUTHENTICITY AND INTREGRITY OF THIS BOOK, BUT THERE IS ANOTHER THING THAT CAME WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS COME. I READ IN ACTS THE SECOND CHAPTER IN VS 16-17 HOW THE LAST DAYS CAME. NOW WHEN YOU TURN ON YOUR TELEVISION AND YOU LISTEN TO THE EVANGELIST AND YOU WILL GET THE IMPRESSION THAT THE LAST DAYS JUST STARTED LAST WEEK. 2238 BUT THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS THAT THE LAST DAYS CAME WHEN THE DAY OF PENTECOST WAS COME. IN ACTS THE SECOND CHAPTER? HOW DO WE KNOW THAT, BECAUSE OF WHAT THE APOSTLE SAID ABOUT IT. IN ACTS CHAPTER 2 REMEMBER THEY WERE ACCUSED OF BEING DRUNK WITH WINE, AND THEN PETER PUT THAT MATTER TO REST, SAYING Ac 2:15 for these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. Ac 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; Ac 2:17 and it shall come to pass in the last days, NOW STOP THERE FOR A MOMENT, WHEN HE SAYS THIS IS THAT WHICH WAS SPOKEN BY THE PROPHET JOEL, AND IT SHALL COME TO PASS IN THE LAST DAYS. WHAT IS HE DOING? HE IS INFORMING HIS AUDIENCE THAT THE EVENTS TRANSPIREING ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST AS RECORDED IN ACTS THE SECOND CHAPTER WERE OCCURING IN THE LAST DAYS, IN THE FULFILLMENT OF OLD TESTAMENT PROPHESIES.
