WHERE ARE YOU GOING? A couple of weeks ago, I posted a rant challenging our congregation to invite people in their families, their friends, and their co-workers to Meet Me At The Heights. Charlie and our dear friend Gordy Young put on a wonderful interview and we learned that our own Bass Player, Bruce Drudge has lead a secret life of impersonating Gordy! (You had to be there...) Pastor Carl recently posted the article Therefore GO!. Above, I asked you where you are going. Where are you going to make disciples for Jesus Christ? Where are you going, that takes you out of the comfort of our beautiful Sanctuary? Where are you going to spread the Gospel? St. Francis admonished us all to preach the gospel always, and if necessary, use words! What does that mean to you? I never caught on that modern society dictates that you live like a saint on Sunday mornings so live like hell the rest of the week. I do not think I am much different on Sundays than any other day of the week. Not so sure thats a good thing... I DO know that returning to music has brought me closer to Christ. We are taught to have the faith of a child. Ill step in it now... For me, that means that I can accept the basic logic of evolution and science, but CHOOSE to believe in intelligent design (that means GOD). For me, I will be equally thrilled to reach heaven and find out that the Genesis story was a merely a parable to help us understand Gods creative power; or that Adam and Eve were VERY real and just as anxious to meet me as I, them. IT IS NOT MISSION CRITICAL TO MY FAITH IN CHRIST. So where do I go? I go to the bars and clubs the bands play. As I do not drink, some see me as being too serious and want me tolighten up and have a few. I might ask them what they are trying to lighten up FROM. That has started several interesting conversations. I go to Facebook, where on my musician page, I am friends with 600-some people. Many are fellow musicians from all over the country. Many are also family and friends. I try to encourage those who express difficulties in their lives. That also has started some great conversations. I always wish those with birthdays to have a day filled with love and great blessings. Not because it sounds nice and is easy to put down without a lot of new thought, but because I truly want that for them. Again... more conversations. Where are you going? Who are YOU encouraging? Who are YOU witnessing to without using words? What does your witness tell people about your faith? What can you do to help bring THE PEOPLE YOU ALREADY KNOW closer to Christ? I can actually guess that there are those asking themselves Who the heck is Baker to tell ME what I should be doing? My response will simply be If no one else is asking you that question, then why NOT me?! Evangel Heights has many programs than would interest a wide variety of people. Take a serious look at our churchs Disability Ministries for one. I know there are those that think this is just Carol Robisons thing and that if she didnt so it, the church probably wouldnt bother with it at all. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I HAVE heard such comments from members. And they couldnt be more wrong! Carol and Becky need help! Our Sunday School programs need more people that are truly willing to teach our children the Salvation story and the Gospels and not just babysit. Dennis desires more people willing to sing Gods praises in the Choir. Our Senior High kids need more solid role models to show that that living a Godly life CAN be cool without being preachy or sappy. Most importantly, God need US to make disciples for Him. So, where are you going? Thanks for putting up with me! Chris
