WHERE DOES IT HURT? The ancient Romans were a strange lot. They lived in a society that thrived on slavery and class distinction; and yet, at the end of a hard day, high-born and low enjoyed the luxury of the bath house together (just as they did, the public toilets). Today, we look upon any such behaviour with the greatest suspicion. And whether its social embarrassment or plain prudishness that inhibits us, wed rather suffer the aches and pains of life than let some stranger (or friend) rub them away. As a matter of fact, I have to admit I prefer the kind of massage Inspector Clouseau seemed to like best: a fune massage.
