WHERE IS YOUR HONOR? In relationships, honor seems the bedrock and most convincing evidence of acceptance. It’s impossible to render sufficient respect to anyone or thing you do not accept. And of course, you should not forget the general saying that respect is earned and not demanded. However, that saying is only true to an extent! There is a broader dimension that is found in the word of God, which shows that though honor is not to be demanded but could be requested! Without any fear, complex or insecurity, you can ask for it politely or formally, especially where the other party has demonstrated an appalling level of insensitivity and insensibility. “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If then I am the father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My reverence? Says the Lord of hosts…” (Malachi 1:6) Here we see God requesting for a deserved honor from the same people that claimed affinity with Him. Why? That’s the only proof of acceptance. Consistent demonstration of contempt for anything or anyone is enough to convince even the doubting Thomas of non-acceptance. The Lord further expatiates: “…you offer the blind as a sacrifice…you offer the lame and the sick…Offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you…” (V. 8) And the same offence committed by these people we do also commit today. What we would not give to our bosses, superiors and secular leaders, we lump together and give to God. We invest our time, energy, talents, connections and resources on our personal gains and advancement, and we leave only the spares for God, yet we lay claim to have accepted Him. Just think of it; when last have you pursued God’s agenda with the same amount of energy, passion, drive, motivation, time and resources you lavish on your career and personal interests? Do you think it is the leftovers that He deserves? Wrong! Do you now wonder why most of what you do is not acceptable to Him? It’s because He knows that even your mortal leaders won’t accept such from you: “offer it then to your governor! Would he be pleased with you?” The Lord is requesting for a due honor from you. It’s about time you stop all these contemptible treatment you give to Him and He’s. The question He’s asking you is this: “if I am your Father, where is My honor? And if I am your Lord, where is My reverence?” Prayer: Most worthy Father, I humbly repent of every “blind, lame sick sacrifice I always render and the contemptible ways I treat You and Yours. As my Father and Lord, I choose as from now to give You Your well deserved honor, so help me Holy Spirit in Jesus name, Amen. (Kindly share the daily Empowerment Devotional)
