WHERE are the OKLAHOMA STATE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS who KNOW..... - TopicsExpress

WHERE are the OKLAHOMA STATE SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS who KNOW..... UNDERSTAND and SUPPORT reforming PUBLIC EDUCATION with LOCAL CONTROL? YESTERDAY at their meeting Amy Ford, Bill Price and Lee Baxter -- three Oklahoma State School Board Members, took over the rewriting process for Oklahoma Education Standards. This is another power play by GOVERNOR FALLINS appointed State School Board. NONE of these three (or other members except Kathryn Franks) are Educators. The State Constitution DID NOT give the Governor/Executive branch the authority over education and we MUST PASS legislation to ELECT these board members. We MUST do that to give Oklahomans our voice through elected representation which is the original intention in the State Constitution. Instead of letting the process as established within the wording of HB 3399 Oklahomas STOP COMMON CORE bill proceed as graphed and presented in the past three State Board meetings, these members of the board have set up their own version. I would LOVE to be hopeful and positive about that but I cant be ..... based on their past actions. These members have all fought to KEEP COMMON CORE. Bill Price did not sign the lawsuit to keep Common Core but Ford and Baxter did. Price is on the board of OCPA -Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs and is head of the Choice group for charter schools. WHERE are the board members who KNOW..... UNDERSTAND and SUPPORT reforming PUBLIC EDUCATION with LOCAL CONTROL? I do not see them in this board. Perhaps Kathryn Franks is a true supporter of reforming Public Education with Local Control. I do not know her and she did not sign the lawsuit. Franks is an educator who taught in Texas before moving to Oklahoma. She may be silent on these matters because she is so out numbered by members with a different agenda! We have an election in November for State Superintendent and New legislation that will be passed by May 2015 so in addition to the State Legislature having oversight to approve the Standards produced, we are not nearly finished with this battle. The people of Oklahoma have spoken..... COMMON CORE WILL BE STOPPED in OKLAHOMA!
