WHICH IS BETTER:SCHOOL OR MOTTO? I was going to write my tribute to Sauti Sol for their Muzuri Mama number, that captivating, pulsating, totally virtuous ballad. Then I saw this on the way and actually parked on the roadside and took these snaps. No, really, I did. Just like Mv Masuren earlier. Why would you call a School Suzy Peacock? Susanna Tausi? Which blindingly bright genius permitted this fiasco to happen? Are the promoters of this institution literate at all? If so, why choose the motto as limitless desire, or Discipline Proceeds Success? Proceed is intransitive;you need a conjunction between it and the object. Jeiso. Perhaps they meant precedes. Which confirms my suspicions. But mere grammatical qualms are nothing in the face of Limitless Desire. Who desires what? Or, , Heaven forbid, whom? Are the childen safe? What about socialisation? GS, Kabbz, Boma, Patch, Changes, Ditches, Bush, Kottet, Chox........ now we have Suzies. Or is it Peacocks? Peabrains? Suzys cocks? Quail, anyone? In all legal frameworks connected with the registration of entities, there are parameters. The name must not be one already in use. It must not cast aspersions on the competition. It must not suggest anything immoral or indecent. It must not appeal to divisive passions, animate discriminatory impulses or inflame suspicions, hostilities or violence. It must not be so vague that improper interpretations may be plausibly contemplated from plain reading. Suzy Peacock High School. Sawa tu. Limitless Desire. Isnt that like an epic curse, like insatiable hunger? Inspire me! But I can be insufferably old fashioned. Times have changed, I suppose. Perhaps these are the pioneers of a new trend. Maybe they will top the 2014 KCSE and we will thenceforth shut the hell up.
