WHICH TRIBE IS THE BEST ?:::::::::::::::: I am 100 % certain that everyone will respond to this question with respect to the tribe one belongs to. In reality, no tribe is absolutely best and none is absolutely worst. An Igbo man does not believe you have to prostrate or kneel down before you demonstrate your humility as oppose to the Yoruba. An Hausa man believes there is need for you as a man to have endurance and courage to face difficulties in life and consequently, you will be whipped seriously to test how truly man you are before an Hausa man gives her daughters hand in marriage. So, each tribe is shaped by its history, culture and tradition. I am an Ogu man( erroneously called Egun ) from South West Nigeria. It is not uncommon for major tribes to undermine other minority groups anywhere in the world. Expectedly, my tribe has become a target in South West of Nigeria. In the real sense of it, is Ogu a minority group in West Africa ? The answer is capital NO ! Research has revealed that what we call Egun is just a member of the Gbe linguistic structure in West Africa. The language is spoken in Nigeria (Lagos and Ogun States), Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana and some parts of Cote Divoire. The speakers have been said to number between 8 and 10 millions. In fact, former Ghanian President, Jerry Rawlings, is an Ogu man ! Is the influence of Ogu limited to West Africa ? NO ! Cariebbean Creole and Haitian Creole widely spoken in both Caribbean Island and Haiti was primarily created with French and the Ogu language( the Fon version to be precise). The reality is that our traditional religion such as Vothun is celebrated there. In Brazil also, our culture is widely practised and names such as Dunga, Hunza for instance are Ogu-influenced. No culture is complete without its music. Traditionally, Ogu music is displayed using pentatonic scales. These scales can best be handled by music experts and each time I sing our traditional music, I naturally become highly emotional and develop goose pimples on my skin. Had Britain extended her administration beyond Badagry to include Benin, Togo and Ghana, Ogu would have constituted a major tribe in Nigeria. What you undermine in Ogu in Nigeria is a language of instruction in Benin, Togo and Ghana up to University level. I am not a Yoruba man eventhough am from Western part of the country. I am not also an Egun but Ogu and my language is Gungbe. My culture and tradition are too rich to be undermined by anyone. I am proud, very very very proud to be an Ogu man !
