WHILE Hills residents and firefighters look forward to forecast - TopicsExpress

WHILE Hills residents and firefighters look forward to forecast rains later in the week, Outback South Australians could be facing a flood. Falls of up to 200mm are predicted for the northwest of the state over Thursday, Friday and Saturday and the Bureau of Meteorology has already issued a flood watch ahead of the deluge. The bureau says a tropical low near the northwest coast of Western Australia, combined with an upper trough developing over the east of that state, is likely to extend a significant rain band into the northwest of South Australia. While the Hills might get a welcome drenching of up to 30mm, Coober Pedy and surrounding areas could cop as much as 200mm as thunderstorms roll in. “The forecast heavy rain may lead to significant widespread flooding,” a bureau flood-watch bulletin states.. “People in the area should monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be prepared should flooding develop. Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel plans may need to be reconsidered. Some communities may become isolated.”
