WHITE NABS TWO YR WINS IN TWO DAYS Invercargill show jumper Nicole White has been rewarded for travelling the length and breadth of the country, picking up two big wins in as many days. White travelled north to Ashburton taking out the Gluyas Motor Group Young Rider at the Ashburton A&P on Friday, only to return south less than 24 hours later to pick up the quinella in the Telford Young Rider at the Otago ESNZ Jumping and Showhunter Show on Saturday. Riding the speed machine Cricklewood Ace, White and current Young Rider of the Year Rose Alfeld on My Super Nova posted the only clears in the seven-strong field to go head-to-head against the clock. Alfeld was out first collecting 4 faults in a time of 48.84 seconds. White jumped clear and sped home in 40.74 to take the win. White dominated the small field at Otago, producing the only clear rounds of the four-horse field to go one-two with Cricklewood Ace and Flashback, ahead of Rakaia’s Kimberley Bird on Ngahiwi Summer, third. The Otago show suffered ill-effect of the high winds today forcing the Horse Grand Prix to be abandoned. The South Canterbury Saddlery Mini Prix was won by Arrowtown’s Lauren Buckley on Icey Storm with a lovely first round clear, and just 4 faults in the second round, while the Pony Grand Prix was won by Scott Wylie (Invercargill) on MF Spot Me. Outram’s Rebecca Kerr won the Caledonian Amateur rider on Tiraumea Curious George with Amanda Roy (Clinton) on Rumours NZPH winning the Pro Am. Perhaps the toughest battle of the day came in the 11-strong Challenge McFarlane Junior Rider Series with four junior riders (18 and under) battling it out against the clock. In the end it was local Erin Milner (Dunedin) who came up trumps, jumping clean and clear aboard Glenbrooke Jordie Girl in 40.13 seconds. At Ashburton A&P yesterday (Saturday) Olivia Robertson (Ohoka) continued her sensational run of form finishing one-two in the Waterforce Horse Grand Prix over a maximum height track designed by Roger Laplanch, while young Halswell teen Steffi Whittaker picked up her first Pony Grand Prix win on Moonlight Glow with a stunning double clear.
