WHITE WAVE has been revitalized as a result of the support we have received through GoFundMe fundraiser. I want to be frank and confess about what I have been going through during the past month, or so. I have lived my life as an artist for the past 35 years in New York and have encountered countless ups and downs especially, you can imagine, a person like me who came from Korea. In November 2000, White Wave relocated in DUMBO and we created performance/rehearsal space. Since day one, my landlord was one of the most difficult person to deal with and many occasion he has threaten us with eviction notes. But actually, this was the first time I visualized an actual eviction and worried every night, “what if we can’t raise $25,000 in time?” Then, where would White Wave go? It was a sheer challenging time for me and all of us at White Wave. We are deeply, deeply moved by the encouragements and donations from over one hundred people including friends, choreographers / dancers who performed in our festivals, as well as the public in general. Without your generous contribution we could not have gotten this far….. Your commitment to Save Our Space inspired us to keep pushing and working to keep WHITE WAVE alive. A special thank you to Dr. Scheffer for his enormously generous donation to Save Our Space! Not only is he our savior, but also he worked with us and our board of directors to create some of the fabulous fundraising strategies. Now that we have reached our goal, we are having a “Thank You Get-Together” for our donors at WHITE WAVE on Tuesday, July 16th at 7pm. Our GoFundMe donors, please save the date and join us, together we need to celebrate! So far, 87 supporters have helped us raise $22,292 through GoFundMe and 15 donors sent us checks via-mail $5,230. As of now we have reached a total of $27,522. Although we have reached our goal, we would like to remain on the GoFundMe site for a few more days. Our goal of $25,000 was to avoid eviction due to passed two month’s rent (April & May). We are still in a difficult situation to overcome many other operating expenses.
