WHIZZO THE CLOWN! TOREY SOUTHWICK AND OL GUS! Who remembers these people? I sure do. I found this video on YouTube, and apparently this guy who was interviewed by KMBC Channel 9 for the piece produced a documentary for the local public television station on the people who brought these characters into our Kansas City living rooms back in the day. I wonder if any you happened to record this documentary. I would sure love to get a copy of it. I remember watching Torey and Ol Gus, and I was practically weaned on Miss Virginia and Romper Room when I was a little kid. And for me, Whizzo the Clown has special significance. Growing up an only child, he was often the only friend I had in the afternoons (when all my real friends had other things to do and couldnt come out and play and I would watch Whizzo on TV). Ive never understood why some people grow up with this demented fear of clowns. I believe the reason why I always found clowns faces friendly and not scary is because I grew up watching Whizzo.
