WHMA Tuesday News Update - WHMABIG95 All of the Gadsden area Colorado plane crash victims bodies are confirmed to be still in the plane with their seat belts on. The plane crashed Saturday about 1:50pm into Ridgway Reservoir near Montrose, Colorado. Ouray County authorities said Monday the plane was upside down lodged in 2-3 feet of mud making it impossible for divers to remove the bodies. Removal estimates are as early as Wednesday but likely Thursday. The victims are Gadsden businessman Jimmy Hill, president of Gadsden Tool, the pilot; Katrina Vinzant Barksdale and her two sons, Xander and Kobe, and Seth McDuffie. Hobson City’s mayor says letters are going out this week to owners of homes and buildings deemed a nuisance, asking to fix them up to code. But, Alberta McCrory says the letters are not threatening rather the town is “trying to build relationships, so we’re talking to them. We want to give them the opportunity.” Hobson City is applying for an ADECA grant for housing rehabilitation. But before the town can apply its required to show improvement in a section of the town’s housing. There was a protest in front of the Etowah County Jail Monday. Protesters even chained themselves to the front doors of the building, citing frustration with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for arresting illegal aliens and keeping them in the facility. The Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice had seven of its people arrested, and about 100 others protested in front of the building on Forrest Avenue in Gadsden. They demanded President Obama end the deportation of illegal aliens. Ricky Lee Suddarth, 47, of Oxford was killed by a hit and run vehicle Sunday according to Oxford police. Monday, they announced they have identified the hit-and-run suspect less than 24 hours after Suddarth was killed. The scene was near the 2200 block of Barry Street. Oxford investigators provided police with a description of the vehicle by debris found at the scene. Officials would not identify the suspect, a 23-year-old Anniston man, until the driver is charged. Richard Nelson Davis Jr., of Anniston, was indicted March 10th by a grand jury and faces a manslaughter charge in the death of Kimberly McCoy, 41, of Jacksonville and first-degree assault for injuring Cody Phillips 20, also of Jacksonville in a May 5th, 2013 wreck on Highway 204. Davis plead guilty, was fined $1,400; sentenced to 60 days in jail; to complete 30 days community service and two years probation. But, he failed to show up for much of his required community service work, so, Davis has a court date on April 17th. Each charge carries a potential sentence of two to 20 years in prison. Joyce Garrard, the grandmother accused of running her 9-year-old granddaughter, Savannah Hardin, to death in February, 2012, was denied yet another motion. Circuit Judge Billy Ogletree denied the motion for a numerical total of the grand jury vote too indict Garrard for capital murder on March 9, 2012. The defense is trying to ascertain the “presumption of guilt” as it may relate to the death penalty. The motion was denied March 6th. Garrard’s trial is set to begin June 23rd. **** SPORTS! **** The Detroit Lions will not exercise their 2015 option on Nick Fairley. The Lions are trying to motivate Fairley, who, in three years, hasnt lived up to the teams expectations. Mark Sanchez, who was released by the New York Jets on Friday, is expected to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Jets Friday announced the signing of former Eagles starter Michael Vick. The University of Alabama athletics department recorded a $21.2 million surplus for its 2013 fiscal year, according to the universitys most recent NCAA financial report.
