WHO ALL RECEIVED THIS EMAIL FROM THE SCHOOL ????? A message from ANDERSON COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION Good evening parents and guardians of Anderson Community Schools. This is Superintendent of Schools, Terry Thompson. This evening we had a Community Meeting attended by over 100 parents, students, grandparents, clergymen and patrons to discuss the concern we have about some ongoing disruptive and defiance issues. We have a long term plan that will remove students from the normal school setting on a temporary basis until they can learn how to act appropriately in the general school population. We have a guiding philosophy that we operate our schools with and that is simply this, “Teachers have a right to teach and students a right to learn and nobody is going to disrupt either of those.” We will not put students out onto the street or give them vacation time to act out on the streets of Anderson, Indiana. We will remove students from our schools who physically harm other students, staff or themselves because it is our duty to have a safe, healthy and orderly environment. Please note that at our high school we have had some unruly behavior this week and tomorrow morning we will meet with our staff before school and each of our classes to explain the immediate actions to be taken as well as the future consequences. We have approximately 10 parents who will be attending some of our schools tomorrow to monitor our hallways but as a community we need to involve a lot more parents and ask you to stand together and not accept any disorderly behavior. Please feel free to come to the school and get a visitors badge and be visible. Thank you and have a great night and we are happy to say that this disorderly conduct is coming from a small percentage of our student body. We have excellent students and young men and women so this is not a crisis but needs our immediate attention in saying NO to any more disruptive behavior. There will be increased security and police presence tomorrow. I would like to thank the over 100 people who showed up tonight but we need all of you to attend the next meeting we have.
