WHO IS ALHAJI L.A.K. JIMOH? The full knowledge of Ilorin Emirate history will never be appreciated without mentioning the name of the author of the most popular story book of Ilorin; ILORIN; THE JOURNEY SO FAR. The author is nobody but that courageous man who stands tall among his class whenever you talk about being truthful and firm all the time. Alhaji L.A.K. Jimoh is the man. Alhaji Jimoh L’Azeez Ayinla Kolawole was born on this day 26th of November some decades ago in Ariwonka Compound, Balogun Gambari Quarters Ilorin, now Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State. Alhaji L.A.K. Jimoh attended the famous University of Lagos, Akoka where he studied and graduated in 1971 with BSc. (Hons) in Political Science. Many thought and even believed he studied History because of his immense contribution to the history of Ilorin and Kwara at large, not knowing that he is actually Political Scientist. Because of Alhaji Jimoh’s desire to contribute to the development of Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State in general he joined the Kwara State Civil Service immediately after his graduation from University of Lagos in 1971. He served at various levels in the Administration Officers cadre and retired in 1982 as an Administrative Officer Grade One (Deputy Permanent Secretary), having served as the Acting Permanent Secretary in the Kwara State Liaison Office, Lagos. He was the Sole Administrator, Idah Division, now five (5) Local Government Areas in today Kogi State between 1972 and 1973. He also served in various capacities in the Military Governor’s Office between 1973 and 1979 in different ministries and parastatals. Moreover, he was giving a task to act in capacity of Permanent Secretary Kwara State Liaison Office, Lagos between 1979 and 1980 before he was seconded to Federal Service on special assignment as Secretary for Administration and Finance in the Presidential Liaison Office Kwara State between 1980 and 1982. Between 1984 to 1988 Alhaji L.A.K. Jimoh served as the National President, Ilorin (Emirate) Descendant Progressive Union (IEDPU), the non political umbrella organization for all descendants of Ilorin Emirate. Alhaji L.A.K. Jimoh has a landmark involvement in party politics in Kwara State. He joined politics actively as far back as 1982 when he was the Kwara State Gubernatorial Candidate in 1983 general election under Nigeria People Party (NPP). Between 1990 and 1993, he was a party leader and a founding member of National Republican Convention (NRC) in Kwara State. He was also a party leader and a founding member of Congress for National Concensus (CNC) between 1995 and 1996. In addition, between 1998 and 2001 Alhaji L.A.K. Jimoh was a state party leader and a founding member as well as a gubernatorial aspirant in 1999 general election under the platform of All Peoples Party (APP). Alhaji L.A.K. Jimoh left APP in 2001 and joined the Africa largest political party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and since then remains in PDP as one of the state party leaders. He was a gubernatorial aspirant in 2003 general election and 2011 Kwara Central Senatorial candidate under the umbrella of PDP. Alhaji Jimoh L’Azeez Ayinla Kolawole’s immediate past appointment was as a Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council, University of Port Harcourt between 2005 and 2008. L.A.K. Jimoh as he is popularly called was a member, Board of Directors, Port Harcourt Refining Company, Eleme Port Harcourt between 2001 and 2004. Alhaji L.A.K. Jimoh served creditably well at these various positions which actually earn him and keeps his integrity at a very high esteem among his contemporaries. Alhaji L.A.K. Jimoh has contributed and still contributing to social-economic development of Ilorin Emirate and Kwara state at large in term of facilitation and promotion of federal and state projects to the local communities. He has also been able to provide juicy jobs and appointments as well as contracts to teaming number of indigenes of Kwara State regardless of their religion, tribal or political affiliations. Non Kwarans are not left out of his heart kindness. Currently, Alhaji Jimoh L’Azeez Ayinla Kolawole is an aspirant contesting for Kwara Central Senatorial District under the platform of PDP come 2015. As we all know, a problem known is half solved. Alhaji L.A.K. Jimoh knows our problems. He is a grassroots politician, he is a father, he is courageous, he is one of us and he has been tested and trusted. Let us give him a chance. VOTE FOR L.A.K.
