*WHO IS MORE SUPERIOR* Ibn Qayyim wrote: The first of them is Khadeejah bint Khuwaylid bin Asad bin Abdul-Uzaa bin Qasee bin Kilaab. The Prophet married her in Makkah while he was twenty five years old, and she remained with him until Allah honored him with His message. So, she believed in him and supported him; and she was a sincere minister to him. She died three years before Hijrah according to the most correct opinion- some scholars are of the view it was four years before the Hijrah while others are of the view it was five years before it. She has inimitable virtues (may Allah be pleased with her). Among them are: The Prophet did not marry another woman along with her and all his children were from her with the exception of Ibraaheem who was born by his slave Maariyah. In addition, she is the best of all women in this Ummah. The scholars differed as regards her superiority over Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) affirming three opinions and the third opinion is to stay clear of it. I asked our Shaykh Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) and he said: “Each one of them possesses particular merits. So the influence of Khadeejah was at the beginning of Islaam, because she used to comfort the Messenger Allah, make him resolute, calm him down and expend her wealth for him. Thus, she attained the honor of Islaam and endured harm for the sake of His Messenger. Her support to the Messenger of Allah was at the most significant time of need. Hence, she has the merits of support and sacrifice that no one beside her has. As regards Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her), her influence was at the later part of Islaam. She has the merit of comprehending the religion, conveying it to the Ummah and benefitting the Ummah with what she gave to them of knowledge that no one beside her has.” This is the import of his statement. I say: among the exceptional virtues of Khadeejah is that Allah – exalted be He – with Jibreel sent greetings to her and the Messenger of Allah conveyed that to her. Al-Bukhaaree recorded in his authentic collection that Aboo Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: “Jibreel came to the Prophet and said, “O Messenger of Allah! This is Khadeejah coming to you with a dish having meat soup, food or drink. When she reaches you, greet her on behalf of her Lord (i.e. Allah) and on my behalf, and give her the glad tidings of having a Qasab palace in Paradise wherein there will be neither any noise nor any fatigue.” By the eternal existence of Allah, this is a distinct virtue that no one has but her. As for Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) angel Jibreel greeted her throu gh the tongue of the Prophet. Al-Bukhaaree recorded that Aa’ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: “Once Allah’s Messenger said (to me), “O ‘Aish (Aa’ishah)! This is Jibreel greeting you.” I said, “Peace and Allah’s Mercy and Blessings be on him. Indeed, you see what I do not see.” She was referring to Allah’s Messenger. Among the distinctions of Khadeejah (may Allah be pleased with her) is that she never caused him harm nor annoyed him and he never deserted her for once, boycotted her nor censured her. This is sufficient as superiority and merit for her. In addition, among her uniqueness is that she was the first woman to believe in Allah and His Messenger in this Ummah. Jalaa’ al-Afhaam (234) This aspect really wowed me: “Among the distinctions of Khadeejah (may Allah be pleased with her) is that she never caused him harm nor annoyed him and he never deserted her for once, boycotted her nor censured her. This is sufficient as superiority and merit for her.” Imagine that status of our mother, Khadeejah (may Allah be pleased with her) and contemplate on the profound insight of Ibn Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him).
