WHO IS RASMIEH ODEH? WHAT IS SHE? Rasmieh Odeh, shown here amidst the ruins of her 1948 forcibly depopulated village of Lifta, northwest of Jerusalem, is being prosecuted by the US federal government for not mentioning on her immigration form her armed resistance activities against Israel (her hearing in Detroit is scheduled for Nov. 1). Rasmieh Odeh is a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a Marxist-Leninist group founded after Israels 1967 war of aggression on the Sinai, Gaza, West Bank, and Golan Heights. After participating in a couple of bombing operations in Israel 45 years ago, she was caught, tried by an Israeli military court and sentenced to life in prison, until she was released in a prisoner exchange deal. Rasmieh Odeh is one of the heroes of Palestinian resistance to Israels 65 years of colonization, military occupation, persecution and dispossession. Israels prisons have seen over 800,000 Palestinians since 1967, including children - Palestinians tried and convicted of various charges in Israels kangaroo military courts (not to mention the many targeted by Israel and assassinated extrajudicially or killed during Palestinian protests). Rasmieh poses no threat to the United States, where she has been serving her community in Chicago since her naturalization to that country in 1994. When Edward Snowden leaked a 2009 document that indicated that the U.S. government regularly hands over to Israel intercepted communications that have not first been reviewed by U.S. analysts, the extent of US-Israeli collusion over matters of security became very clear to everyone. Rasmieh Odeh is up against that unholy alliance in her fight against a vicious and vengeful move that has absolutely nothing to do with US security.
