WHO IS SENATOR (ALH.) SULAIMAN MAKANJUOLA AJADI ? Senator Sulaiman Makanjuola Ajadi was born at Omu-Aran to parents from Adio – Babanloma in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State on 3rd June 1957. He began is education at St. Martins Catholic School, Adio in 1963 and later moved to Alore LGEA Primary School Oke Apomu, Ilorin where he obtained his First School Leaving Certificate in 1970. Thereafter, he gained admission to Muslim Council College, Babanloma in 1971 and after three years, he sought transfer to Lafiagi Secondary School, Lafiagi where he completed his Secondary School programme in 1975. He later attended Kwara State College of Technology for his Advanced Level Papers. In 1977, he was admitted to study Economics at University of Ibadan and graduated with a Second Class (Upper Division) in June, 1980. By 1986, he had obtained his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) Programme at the University of Ilorin.Not satisfied, he proceeds to obtain a Diploma in Law and Computer Science at Kwara State Polytechnic in 1987 and 1990 respectively. Ajadi is also a member of many professional Association/Bodies including Nigerian Economic Society, Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) and Nigerian Institute of Internal Auditors as well as a Fellow of the Institute of Financial Management of Nigeria (FNICM) only to mention but a few. After completing his National Youth Service, M. S. Ajadi commenced his working career when he joined his Alma Mater, Kwara State Polytechnic as an Assistant Lecturer in 1981.In addition to his teaching schedules, Ajadi serves variously as a member of many important committees such as Institute Board, (a policy making body for the Institute of Basic and Applied Sciences) Polytechnic Assembly,Academic Board and Curriculum Development Committees in addition to many other adhoc assignments he successfully carried out in the Polytechnic.He rose to become a Principal Lecturer and Deputy Director of the Institute of General Studies before he retired for full-time Politics in 1999. Unknown to many, Ajadi recognized the leadership qualities he was endowed with early. As a result, he has from a tender age begun demonstrating his leadership qualities. He was made a class monitor at St. Martins Primary School and consistently served in that position for three years. He was also at various times served as School Prefect, Assistant Prefect and janitor throughout his Secondary School days. There is no gainsaying that Ajadi is a master of his trade. These and many other traits are probably what gave him the confidence to embrace politics early in life. As an undergraduate at the University of Ibadan, he was a member of the student’s wing of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria UPN. Even when he started work, he still had time to serve as a member of the Kwara Central Executive Committee of the Party. In addition, he was later a member of the State caucus of the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) as well as a Senatorial Aspirant of the then UNCP. In 1987, he was made the Secretary of the Committee on Non-Party Election (Ifelodun Local Government Chapter)and succeeded with some other in producing the local government Concil Chairman that year while he coordinated the Senatorial activities of APP/ANPP between 1998-1999 in the State. Senator Ajadi was appointed Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development in Kwara State during the Military Administration. At the time he served as a Commissioner, his doors were perpetually open to those who need favour from him both from within and outside his jurisdiction. He also contributed in great deal to the development of the State through his membership of many Committees both at the State and Federal levels. Among the major Committees where he served during this period included National Economic Planning Committee under the auspices of the National Planning Commission, Federal Account Allocation Committee, Transition Implementation Committee of the new Civilian Administration in Kwara State and even served as Chairman of its Finance Sub-Committee.He also led Kwara State pilgrims to Saudi Arabia in 1995 as Head of Kwara state delegation (Amir Hajji) to Mecca and Medina. Modest as ever, Ajadi was elected a Senator of the Federal Republic representing Kwara South Senatorial District on the platform of the then All People’s Party {APP} under the leadership of our amiable, indefatigable and dynamic mentor, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, the Waziri of Ilorin. As a Senator, he made many useful contributions at the floor of the Senate and at the various Senate Committees where he served either as Chairman or Deputy Chairman. Specifically, he was a Principal Officer of the Senate at inception in 1999,when he served as Deputy Chief Whip (APP};Chairman Senate Sub-Committee on Housing maintenance and Public Transport within the Federal Capital Territory; Chairman Senate Sub-Committee on Water Supply to Abuja as well as Chairman, Senate Sub-Committee on Lower Niger River Basin Ilorin.He was Chairman,Senate Committee on Sports till the end of his first term in 2003.He won a re-election back to the Senate in 2003 when among other activities he served as Chairman of Senate Committee on Culture and Tourisim till August 2005 when this second was terminated through a court process. He positively tourched the lives of down trodden masses of Kwara State through provision of bore holes to many communities within and outside the Senatorial District. In the same vein, his avowed commitment to tackle endemic poverty within his Senatorial District accounted for his poverty alleviation programmes, which brought great relief to many people. He also awarded scholarships to several indigent students across the State. A dynamic, charismatic, dependable and trust worthy person, Ajadi is a politician of great repute and a grass-root mobiliser. Senator Ajadi was born to parents of Kwara South origin. He lived virtually in Ilorin, the state capital and capital of Kwara Central Senatorial District during his school days and while he was working. As a result, he was conversant with the norms and culture of the people of this area in addition to making friends across the Senatorial zone. Besides, he also spent a considerable number of years schooling at Lafiagi in the Kwara North Senatorial District where majority of the elites from that area today are either his classmates, friends, or associates, thus, making him a complete Kwaran from all its ramifications as well as somebody that can be comfortably relied upon to do justice to all manners of people across the state irrespective of tribe or religion when given the mantle of leadership. As an off-spring of peasant parents who are comparatively successful farmers, Senator Ajadi has seen poverty as well as wealth at least of an average standard. He a man of modest means, highly exposed and widely travelled. Inspite of this rare privilege, he neither owned foreign account nor houses anywhere outside Nigeria as he often says “that he does not need a foreign account nor houses abroad, a vow he consistently upheld to- date”. Also he had consistently lived in Kwara state and this affords him the opportunity to be conversant with the problems and aspirations of the people of the State. All these are indications that M. S Ajadi can be trusted and relied upon to fulfill his mission and vision for the overall development and general well-being of the people of Kwara state. For the upliftment of Kwara State INDUSTRIALLY and to create EMPLOYMENT opportunities for Kwarans and non-Kwarans living in the state,Sen Suleiman Makanjuola Ajadi had ventured into the establisment of small scale indutries over the years. He started his Kangile FARMS in 1982 while MAS MEAT & FISH ENTERPRISES was established in 1990 with more than ten outlets within Ilorin and its environs.The enterprise subsist till this day and operates from Sango Ilorin.He established the very Popular SUCCESS EXPRESS-a transport company in the year1999 and till thisday remains one of the most popular and successful private tranport business in Kwara State.SYSTEM COMPUTER INTERNATIONAL was estalished in 1999 and susist till thisday.MAKS-DEE Industries whichs produces AQUASYS Pure & Bottled water,LAVIE Drinks (Juices) of various flavours,City Yogurt,plastic bottles & containers,Wrapping Nylons,etc.was established in the year 2000.This industrial efforts had given Hundreds of EMPLOYMENTS opportunities to the PEOPLE of the STATE over the years in addition to improving her comercial activities thus positively contributing to the DEVELOPMENT of the STATE. He is highly exposed and widely travelled globally. His mission and vision as far as politics is concerned is the upliftment of the down trodden and enhanced development of Kwara State in particular and Nigeria in general.He wishes for the general peace and happiness of all. He is also a God fearing, responsible and a good family man. Although Senator Ajadi is a practicing and devoted Muslim, however, he is staunch believer in freedom of religion. He is married and blessed with children.
