Starring as the seemingly harmless professor is Todd Van Voris in a triumphant return to RTR’s boards! Berkson says the play is well-suited to the darkling month of October. ’The Lesson’ is a perfect show for Halloween,” he says. “Re-reading the play, it hit me how closely Ionescos plot follows the scenario of the traditional horror story: a young girl comes to the isolated dwelling of a renowned and seemingly benevolent man of science and reason. But when the mask of civilization is stripped away, fear and insanity rule.” A very dark heart lies hidden in the tale’s breakneck humor as the bumbling professor’s warm parlor descends into a chamber of horror, and his kindness becomes dangerously cruel. “But yet, Ionesco still makes us laugh,” says Berkson, adding “’The Lesson’ is a very funny play. Then again, so is most of Gothic Horror.” The cast includes Jordin Bradley, Christy Drogosch, and Todd Van Voris. Shows start at 8PM and run about an hour. Admission is $8.00. Readers Theatre Repertorys 50-seat house at Blackfish Gallery requires special care for our guests. Reservations are strongly encouraged, and walk-ins should arrive by 7:30P.
