WHO SCORED THE DFB-TEAM’S GOAL OF THE YEAR? Defining, historic and simply beautiful goals are all up for the gong of the Germany national team’s Goal of the Year 2014, a vote held by the Fan Club Nationalmannschaft powered by Coca-Cola. The list is made up of ten of the 37 goals scored by the DFB-Team during the World Cup winning year of 2014. All you have to do to place your vote is follow this link, watch the video of the ten options, select your favourite and press “Abstimmen”. You can vote up until Thursday, 8th January 2015 at 12:00 CET. Seven of the goals scored by Germany at the World Cup in Brazil are candidates, including of course Mario Götze’s winner in the final against Argentina. Three of the goals from that historic semi-final win over the hosts are also up for the award: Miroslav Klose’s to make it 2-0 and make him the all-time record World Cup goalscorer, Kroos’ strike to increase the lead to 3-0 and André Schürrle’s sumptuous finish for Germany’s seventh. But no less brilliant or important were Mats Hummels’ header to secure a quarterfinal win against France, Schürrle’s backheel flick to break the deadlock in the last 16 against Algeria or Thomas Müller’s curling shot to grab three points against USA in the group stage. The other great goals on the list that weren’t scored at the World Cup are Schürrle’s to make it 1-0 in the final pre-tournament friendly with Armenia, Müller’s strike to open the scoring against Scotland, as well as Mario Götze’s fine finish to put the DFB-Team 3-0 up against Gibraltar. created by mmc/mh
