Young men were sent out from the old country to run these posts. They traded with the Indians, bright beads and woolen cloth were traded for the furs that the Indians brought to the posts It was to one of these posts in Tremblante, Saskatchewan that Cuthbert Grant senior came, brought by his brother Robert. He married a Cree woman and they had five children, two boys and three girls, one of these boys was “our” Cuthbert Grant. He was born in 1793 at Fort Tremblante Saskatchewan. When Cuthbert was only six years old, he became an orphan and, when he was eight years old he was taken to Montreal by his guardian William McGillvary where he was baptized in a Presbyterian Church, and then sent to Scotland, ,his father’s birthplace for his education.
