WHO WILL BE THE NEXT VICTIM OF AUSTRALIAS INDEFINITE MANDATORY - TopicsExpress

WHO WILL BE THE NEXT VICTIM OF AUSTRALIAS INDEFINITE MANDATORY DETENTION REGIME? Currently a 33 year old man is on hunger strike, now hospitalised in Darwin after having also contracted an infection which has now spread up his leg. This man has seen fellow detained asylum seekers self-harming, he has seen people losing their mind; he has been diagnosed with PTSD and chronic depression, by virtue of his experience on the journey to Australia and his subsequent detention. After almost five years, his claim for refugee status and a protection visa has been denied and avenues for appeal exhausted. For asylum seekers of most nationalities, Australian government policy is to forcibly deport them back to their country of origin. But Iran refuses to accept people who have fled. This leaves the man with a dilemma: go back to Iran voluntarily or remain behind bars in Australia indefinitely. If he returns to Iran, he understands he will be arrested by the police when he arrives, taken into custody, tortured, and perhaps killed. He has stressed that hes taking this action, ending in his own demise, on behalf of the others from Iran hes met in detention, and the many more that he hasnt met, who are living in this legal limbo. He has said Im going as far as its going. Tell them Im doing it for the others. Theres no chance of me going back... At the end of last year this man was on hunger strike for 51 days, he only stopped when it appeared his appeal would be heard in the High Court. Having little faith in legal remedy, he has renewed the strike. Thus far he has lost over 23kg. Our sources have suggested he may only have a week to 10 days left. Will this man end up on the growing list of the Department of Immigrations casualties? Please contact Peter Dutton before it is too late - DEMAND that this man and all others held indefinitely without charge or trial, be released into the community.
