WHOA (Words Having Odd Associations) These challenges are based on words to be found on successive pages of the 1924 Websters New International Dictionary, a comprehensive work featuring masses of obscure and forgotten expressions, as well as little-known subsidiary meanings of more everyday words. Players are requested not to research the WNID, or otherwise make use of search engines, but to use their wits and knowledge to answer the questions posed. Page 2: Abactinal – Abattis [not the most fruitful of pages...] Challenge for the day: on this page are 3 quite similar-looking words that have the meanings:- “A mark indicating depreciation, degradation, or disgrace”, “A humbling”, & “Confusion from shame”; players are asked to come up with one of the words in question, and match it to the relevant definition.
