WHY? 1. Yesterday as I was having a morning walk at the GSC, the man ahead of me threw his lit and half finished cigarette on the grass beside him. Very nonchalantly and matter of fact! Why? 2. After that in Zamalek, Mansour Mohamed street, one of the thin and fragile newly planted Trees was being used to hang some wet cleaning cloth, خيش , A couple of brooms were tied round the thin Tree trunk with AC hoses dripping water, circling it as well. Why? 3. On the way out of Zamalek, past the Police Station, I could see huge decapitated trunks of old Trees along the wall inside the GSC. Why? 4. Later in the evening, on the way to the Opera, moving slowly, cars bumper to bumper, I could see the small newly planted Trees, so badly maintained. Except for one which was in full bloom. A traffic policeman walking on the pavement, goes past that Tree and mechanically tugs at the leaves of one of the branches, pulling them apart. WHY? 5. At the Opera, walking into the auditorium, I look in the orchestra pit. The musicians are getting ready. One of them is holding her violin, toying with the strings and chewing gum ..... WHY? 6. During the performance, the Nutcracker Ballet, the young man sitting next to me is busy with his Iphone. Reading and sending messages. WHY? 7. Interval time everyone taking selfies of themselves. Or being photographed by the ushers! Young women posing, standing in a row just below the stage. Others assuming a cover girl pose throwing back their hair and pouting! WHY? 8. Out side after the performance, people taking turns to take a picture next to the life size Santa Claus cardboard model. A middle aged couple, the man on one side and his wife on the other side of the model are standing looking very serious having their picture taken! The souvenir of a Night at the Opera. Okay, that I understand! :)
