WHY ATLANTIC CITY SHOULD BE VERY AFRAID - Dont know what Emergency Management is like? Have a seat. The story we relate is all true: Emergency Management is a corporate war on people. It means everything that belongs to the community: parks, public access to water, zoos, museums, schools goes up for sale to corporations. The Governor can pay off political donors with the assets of the community. Corporations receive huge subsidies, while citizens are locked out from benefits. Apartheid comes when the civil rights of the community are violated. The Ontario province of Canada has always had a sisterly relationship with Detroit. Canadians went immediately to the United Nations when they saw Human Rights violations occurring. Schools without heat in winter. Disabled police and fire fighters, injured on the job threatened with drastic health benefit cuts. Fire fighters ordered by the Fire Chief to let fires burn. Thats not all. Corporations were told to accrue, yet not pay massive water bills in the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars because a dissolving of the City, might potentially wipe their debt away. Meanwhile, 29,000 citizens were shut off for as little as $150. Pneumonia, asthma, sepsis and other respiratory and bacterial deaths went through the roof. The Health Department was closed and the infant mortality rate became the highest of any city in the country. The Emergency Manager, Kevyn Orr, brought in attorneys for $1000 per hour. Orr canceled the police union contract and put a value of a cop at $12 per hour. The Emergency Manager entered into a contract with Manhattan Institute to determine how to institute Search & Frisk in Detroit. The EM hired a Chief Financial Officer, Jim Bonsall, for $250,000, who asked city employees if he could shoot black kids in hoodies on Halloween. The Fire Department was fighting 30 fires a day without the proper equipment, and although the Federal Government provided $22 million in grants, the Emergency Manager didnt spend a dime of it. The City was left with 5 arson inspectors and the highest arson rate of any City. The best way to fight fires, Orr thought, was to close many fire departments at night when most fires start. Engines flew from one edge of town to the other edge to meet families in the street, many homes burned down because they couldnt make it. While Orr dined on crab cakes, slow moving seniors and disabled people burned up in their home. Orr approved half a billion to be diverted from public schools to build a stadium downtown. The people of the city were stuck in a bankrupt community which through the Emergency Manager, was giving out hundreds of millions of dollars of subsidies and contracts to friends and donors of Governor Snyder. Emergency Manager is nothing more than a legal way for the powerful to steal from tax payers on a precipice created by other powerful people and corporations. It is a way to break unions. It is away to destroy school districts. It is a way for a few, like Orr, to make a lot of money. Yes Atlantic City! Be VERY VERY AFRAID if Kevyn Orr is advising your Governor. Tell somebody.
