WHY BILL GATES CAN TELL EDUCATORS HOW TO EDUCATE BUT IN MEDICINE HE DOES EXACTLY WHAT THE MEDICAL PROFESSION TELLS HIM TO DO. Educators have very little empirical evidence for their opinions on the best way to educate our children.. Medical Science, in sharp contrast, has a rich empirical basis for their recommendations as to what works and what does not work in Medicine. And therein lies a fundamental critique of education research. Bill Gates cannot tell the medical profession what to do. He does what they tell him to do. In education Gates does what he thinks should be done, because education research does not have or provide a rich store of data validating their opinions. Its opinion against opinion and the opinion backed by the millions wins out. But not in medicine where even a billionaires opinion counts for nothing against the robust empirical foundations of medical practice. CAN EDUCATION OVERCOME THIS DEFICIT?
