WHY COMMUNICATIONS AUTHORITY OF KENYAS MOVE IS A PREAMBLE OF 2017 - TopicsExpress

WHY COMMUNICATIONS AUTHORITY OF KENYAS MOVE IS A PREAMBLE OF 2017 ELECTORAL MALPRACTICES! I find it as suspect the withdrawal of the temporary authorization granted to Africa Digital Network (ADN) by the Communications Authority of Kenya. ADN is a consortium consisting of NTV, Citizen and KTN. The authorization was to facilitate the roll out of their digital signal distribution platform. The Authority also repossessed the frequency spectrum resources allocated for the said digital platform with immediate effect. The Communications Authority (CA) of Kenya had earlier on allocated 211 digital frequencies to the five signal distributors.(1) Pan Africa Network: The Chinese-owned firm being given 120 frequencies.(2) SIGNET: A subsidiary of the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, being given 54 frequencies.(3) Lancia Media: The firm, which owns Bamba TV, being given 11 frequencies. (4)ADN that is NTV, Citizen and KTN had been given 21 frequencies, The withdrawal of the temporary authorization by the Communications Authority of Kenya, means that the planned jointly launch of a free-to-view TV and broadband Internet service across the country by Citizen, KTN and NTV, has also been suspended, locking out most Kenyans from cheap internet. Currently, Zuku is the only company offering TV, Internet broadband and telephony services, but because of its limited cable infrastructure, it is not every where in the country! About the Digital Terrestrial Transmission sites: Citizen, Nation and KTN had all been allocated a total of 21 sites while Signet, Gotv and PANG control 80 sites. The allocation favored the Chinese companies and will limit the area of coverage for our 3 media stations. This means that our local media stations, for example, will not be able to broadcast Presidential election results from all corners of the country in 2017 because there area of coverage will be limited leaving the omnipresent Chinese (PANG) and Signet (KBC) to broadcast inaccurate results. The Authoritys decision to lease 57% of our Airwaves to a Chinese Company will create a situation whereby our own medias will sometimes have to obtain permission from the Chinese and KBC in order to broadcast some items! The Chinese firm and KBC will also be telling our stations when and what to broadcast. CA Director General Francis Wangusi blamed those developments on the 3 media houses and he may be right, but the remedy ought not to be leasing a lot of our airwaves (57%) to the Chinese. I SUSPECT ALL THIS HAS TO DO WITH 2017 GENERAL ELECTIONS WHERE OUR MEDIA STATIONS WILL BE UNABLE TO GIVE LIVE TRANSMISSION OF PRESIDENTIAL RESULT BECAUSE OF THEIR FEW Digital Terrestrial Transmission sites. REPORTS OF AL-SHABAB ATTACKS IN REMOTE AREAS WILL NOT BE HEARD AGAIN SINCE OUR OWN MEDIA HOUSES WILL HAVE BEEN LOCKED OUT OF MOST AREAS OF THE COUNTRY. ONLY THE CHINESE WILL BE PRESENT EVERYWHERE IN KENYA. After finishing with the media houses, next will be the IEBC and President Uhuru will be back in State House in 2018 high and dry! Those are some of the preamble of 2017electoral mal-practices.
