WHY DID THE SUPREME COURT ISSUE A STAY AGAINST PROVIDING VARNEY SHERMAN A CERTIFICATION AS SENATOR OF GRAND CAPE MOUNT COUNTY WHILE THE CASE CHALLENGING HIM, BY FODEE KROMAH, IS STILL BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE NEC? Varney Sherman (UP) reportedly won 13,651 votes, representing about 61.7% of voters. Fodee Kromah (CDC) reportedly won 3,431 votes, representing 15.5% of voters. Kromah is protesting his loss. However, the election laws require that the NEC first investigates on the local level, then the national level and makes a determination as to whether the case should go to court or not. (See the link to the Daily Observer below) The Chairman of the NEC, Cllr. Jerome G. Korkoya, has said “I am disappointed in the court order because with respect to Cllr. Sherman’s case, the matter is still before the Election Magistrate in Grand Cape Mount and has not yet reached us. I don’t understand why the (Supreme) Court is involved with it at this time...” The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tyler, also said “There are laid-down ground rules and processes in election before going to the Supreme Court.” liberianobserver/news-politics/%E2%80%98i-am-disappointed%E2%80%99
