WHY DO MUSLIMS LEADERS FEAR THIS INTERNET? Throughout the Federal Territories mosques last Friday, a call to arms sermon was provided by the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) to be relayed to attending worshippers. Quite simply, the sermon contained a message from those on high that all attempts should be made by Muslims to help counter the cancer and virus of liberal forces that have hijacked the Internet, turning it into a diabolical weapon to undermine Islam in Malaysia. The sermon continued, In the context of anti-Islamic challenge through the great information technology, it is the duty and responsibility of Muslims to use whatever reasonable strategy, including the social media, to fight against, answer and repel the propaganda and tricks of the enemies of Islam. Now, this is another clear indication of what has been a continued cycle of paranoia that not only affects Islamic religious leaders but also the leaders of other religious faiths on this planet. Exasperated religious leaders to shout down the contrary opinion of others who do not readily accept their doctrine use the word enemies frequently. Enemies is also a word used to describe an opponent in battle. So what is the true battle of religions in todays technologically advanced world? The true battle for religious faiths today is their steadily decreasing control of the hearts and minds of their followers. Now the focus of their war is clearly on destruction of the liberal messenger, the Internet, which allows people of all religions to access and explore contrary opinion, views and beliefs without restriction or fear of subjugation. Now, lets all take a collective deep breath and then come to the realization that throughout history, religious leaders have always howled down global communications platforms that allowed people a platform for freedom of expression, like rock and roll music. In the 50s, the birth of rock and roll music was akin to the arrival of Satin on earth according to religious leaders the world over who despised its immoral influences, particularly on the young. Once again, the call by religious leaders to strike war on historys latest immoral communications platform is another attempt to shoot the Messenger. And this is where all religions tend to be somewhat hypocritical as it was the enlightened Messenger, attributable in all faiths, which brought understanding to those who chose to believe their message. Yes, the true war for religions today is the battle to hold on the hearts and minds of their followers and to halt the expansion of a single world consciousness.
