WHY DOES CATHOLIC CHURCH MAKE USE OF IMAGES/STATUES IN THEIR WORSHIP? Then in a polite manner you say, Have you ever heard the saying: A picture is worth a thousand words? Because people think in images rather than concepts. It is the same as if someone says Birthday cake and suddenly you recall a birthday which was your favorite day.The Church understands spychology of learning.A teaching concept used in most schools is See it,say it,do it. To remember the history and stories of saints,it is easier to have an image to associate with a story. For example St Stephen is depicted during his death as a Martyr as being a bound and pierced by arrows. In the early Church symbols such as the fish were used by Christians to identify each other secretly. Im an artist and when somebody tells me a story,I can form an artwork depicting it.Some people right words,I could create an artwork. A picture is worth a thousand words.Look upon a crucifix and there is an entire story in the depiction of the Body of Christ hanging there.Thousands of words, thousand of feelings, and very very much meaning to the depth and vastness of the love hung there for our sake.Look upon a mother holding her dead Son.How her heart must have grieved to see her Son so tortured, and yet she hated nobody, because she knew Scripture and God s promise.
