WHY I ALWAYS WRITE ABOUT MY LOCAL GOVERNMENT ON FACEBOOK~ Olufowobi Tai-Taiwo Many of my friends asked me why I always write about my Local government on facebook. The reason is beyond Olufowobi Tai Taiwos little wishes. It is about the people of Ogun Waterside Local Government who have lagged behind in dividends of democracy and general uplift of the human development index compared to other local government in Ogun state. It is about thousands of Watersiders who have not seen electricity for the past 8months. It is about my people who only witnessed electricity less than 100days in the last 7years. Ogun Waterside Local Government has suffered utter neglect. It has been subjugated to the whims and caprices of self-centered leaders. There are three compelling issues that watersiders must consider when choosing a representative. They are rich political experience, good political antecedents and god-fatherism. Ogun Waterside local government is in dire need of a leader with rich political experience and good political antecedents. In other words, Watersiders need a leader with vision, energy, passion, and drive more urgently than other local governments in ogun state. We need productive leaders who have the intellectual acumen and leadership skill to stand toe to toe with the best leaders anywhere in Nigeria. A leader who has the credibility, exposure and intellectual prowess to deliver. God-fatherism is another issue that watersiders must consider. The current method in which a governor or god-father picks representatives at the local and state level already presents a functional handicap. The result is that you have men and women who have no loyalty to the people, peoples whose loyalty is only to their stomachs and god-father who gave them the platform. Watersiders need a governor/representative who will develop our local government creatively; a representative people can hold accountable and who will be accountable to them. We want a governor who will resuscitate the only general hospital in our local government, restore our electricity and construct our dilapidated roads. A representative who will bring the people who have ran away from the local government because of low economic activities. It is time to give Ogun Waterside Local Government its new dawn.May the best candidate that will salvage our local government from its present State of doldrums win.
