WHY I STARTED STRAIGHTNESS TRAINING? I began riding at a young - TopicsExpress

WHY I STARTED STRAIGHTNESS TRAINING? I began riding at a young age and I have ridden in many competitions, especially in dressage. In 2003 I stopped riding in competitions. I saw so much stress, anger and misunderstandig between horses and their riders that I no longer wanted to be a part of that world. During that time, I also had Natural Horsemanship lessons and training in TTeam (by Linda Tellington – Jones). These two worlds were so far apart from the competition world, that I decided to look for “something” in the middle and in 2005 I found Straightness Training, developed by Marijke de Jong. In those days she was in the stage of the development of the ST method. I found a way of riding that taught me how to systematically develop my horse and myself as a rider. Macho had many physical and emotional problems caused by castration performed incorrectly and also because of his conformaton. People called him dangerous and advised me to get rid of him over and over again. I always knew he wasnt dangerousand continued my search to find out what was wrong with him. ST helped us tremendously. Soon he began to develop, he became physically stronger and more supple. In 2011, I decided to follow the Dutch Straightness Training instructor program. Straightness Training has brought us so much. I wanted to teach others. So I could help many more horses and their riders. During the training to become an instructor it became clear that emotional, mental and spiritual problems stood in the way of our development. Macho has an introverted nature, and with my previous ‘telling style’ of leadership, there was no pleasure in our work together. I was too focused on results and had to learn to focus on the process and to establish cooperation that was pleasing for both my horse and myself. It was a rough period, but above all very valuable. Our connection is greatly enhanced and Macho has grown a lot, in terms of self-confidence and pride. He now dares to express himself and has fun working with me. In 2012 we graduated and I became a 3rd grade ST instructor. In January 2014 I started to rehabilitation Magic, owned by my daughters riding school. Magic had many physical and emotional problems, couldnt work as a schoolhorse anymore and was given up by the vets. After a month of ST she made an amazing recovery and I decided to keep her. So she will feel balance in body, mind and soul again. In 2014 I started to work abroad too. I went to South Africa, Qatar and Germany to teach ST. In 2015 Kazachstan and South Africa are on my agenda, and more to come. I also welcome students to come to The Netherlands and train with my horses and me. In 2014 I developed Equestrian Image coaching a new way to guide riders from a distance using Youtube and Skype. My Mission Is to teach horses and people a way of training that really helps both horses and people to develop. Im very grateful Marijke de Jong had developed Straightness Training, it has helped so many horses and their riders and will continue to do so in the future. I love the fact that ST is a holistic method that develops the areas of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual balance of both horse and rider.
