WHY LUMUMBA WAS KILLED AND WHY CONGO IS FOREVER IN WAR MODE The Congo has R250 trillion (24 trillion dollars) worth of raw mineral deposits. The nation holds 30% of the world’s Diamond reserves and 80% of the world’s Coltan. Coltan is columbite-tantalite, a metallic ore that contains elements used in mobile phones, laptops, digital cameras and iPods. Coltan, is mainly mined in the Congo’s east war-torn Kivu province. In 1998 Rwanda, with the sssistance of the CIA and western multinationals, invaded eastern Kivu and took over Coltan rich areas. The stability of the Congo is a threat to profiteering American multinationals who manufacture laptops, cameras, etc. R8 billion annual worth of profit is generated from the mining of coltan. The average Congolese mine worker makes R2000 a month. Coltan is used for storing electrical charge. For this reason, it is a vital component in the capacitors that control current flow in cell phone circuit boards. Coltan can’t be replaced anytime soon. So expect the war in the Congos east to continue for some time, too. Successive political regimes in the Congo and neighbouring countries like Rwanda and Uganda are proxies of western powers with an interest in stealing the mineral resources of the Congo. Lumumba died for having dared to suggest that the Congo control its own wealth. Western government gangsters continue to pillage that part of Africa.
