WHY SENSE OF INTERNAL SECURITY IS VITAL? I observe a lot many - TopicsExpress

WHY SENSE OF INTERNAL SECURITY IS VITAL? I observe a lot many people reluctantly adhering to group norms, or whims of stupid bosses & then having self doubts as to whether their conduct is okay, or they are leading correct lives? Examples explain issues well; so I will take examples. You are a student & have a group of friends. The group is very active in students’ politics. You feel that a lot of your time is wasted in politics, which could have been better utilized for studies, exercising, or playing games. You still go along with the group, because you do not want to annoy your friends. You are working for Reliance Telecom Services in the Marketing Division. Your organizations’ culture is to lie, or tell half truths to potential customers. You feel uncomfortable doing it, but do it all the same, because you feel that being honest will render you jobless. You are in the Congress party. You find the sycophantic culture embarrassingly stupid. However, you also indulge in it, because you feel that not imbibing the culture will cause your eviction. You are an Army officer. You find that your unit is indulging in unethical practices. You also become a reluctant participant because you feel that if you don’t do so, you will not be promoted. In the above cases, your sense of worth, or security, is dependent upon external centers. In the first case it comes from the friends’ group. In the second case it comes from the ‘Marketing Division’. In the third case it comes from the ‘Sycophantic culture’. In the fourth case it comes from the promotions you aspire. Your behavior in all the above cases is wrong & lowers your self esteem. It is caused by attributing your sense of security to external factors rather than internal ones. Your sense of worth should come from within- your independent competence & conscience. That is the only way it can be stable & reliable. Only then it will provide you a firm platform for continued personal growth. There will be a lot many who will doubt what I am advocating as impractical. I know it, that it is not easy. Correct path is often not easy! For the doubters here is a live example- Listen to Shashi Tharoor speaking & you will know that he uses his intelligence & conscience to do so, rather than the ‘approval of High Command’!
