WHY SUCCESSFUL BUSINESSES GO AROUND THE CUSTOMER -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In 1989 my late mother had a bank account with UCB branch. To withdraw her little money she often had to travel to Kasana. Traditionally, the bank always told her how she can obtain what service. The bank dictated what service channel she would use to obtain a service. As a powerless customer, the bank was doing her a favor. Gradually the market changed and customers started demanding more. UCB continued with her culture and tradition. Like NRM, it was a monopoly protected by new market entry barriers. Customers just did not stop changing their preferences and tastes; it is UCB like NRM that was unwilling to change tradition because it meant loss of power by those controlling the bank. The banks business strategy was lost when power became the driver of the business rather than the interest of cutsomers that sustain the business strategy. In other words; UCB like NRM lost the line of sight of its business strategy and the customer reason the hemorrhage went on until it was sold off on the cheap. When NRM sycophants shout themselves hoarse as they mask their deep seated insecurity thanks to those with the hind sight to look at the balance sheet and the growing interest of customers, they miss a serious opportunity to self reflect and work on self renewal and re-align their business strategy with the political market. Like in business, the political market has become more dynamic with new customers setting the tone for service delivery as well as the pressure for required internal change delivery of service channels that meet customer demands. All this political organizations are public entities and vital like all businesses for our economic growth. When they collapse, people lose jobs, government loses taxes and the country loses. We must foster business continuity and profitability therefore of our enterprises business and political. newvision.co.ug/mobile/Detail.aspx?NewsID=659149&CatID=4
