WHY TERRORISM AND MARTYRDOM SEDUCE This morning, I walked down to eat breakfast in the dining area of a La Quinta Inn. CNN was on the screen questioning the reason that these four young people were seduced into terrorism. It reminded me of the question President George W. Bush asked in the wake of the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon: Why do they hate us? The Presidents answer was facile and misleading. The reasons why they hate us have never been mysterious to anyone who was willing to attempt objectively to read what the Salafist Sunni Muslim apologists have put in writing (). There are five fundamental reasons why they hate us: (1) The Crusades (Muslim education has made sure that their people have a good memory; the West has developed Alzheimers.), (2) Colonialism and the Cold War (First with European exploitation of the Third World, then with Britain and France arbitrarily creating nations out of the former Ottoman Empire after World War I, then with the Warsaw Pact and NATO playing chess against each other in other peoples backyards, the Muslim world simply does not trust the Wests good intentions, especially since we tend to back dreadfully cruel tyrants who oppress their own Muslim citizens.), (3) Western violation of the sanctity of Muslim lands (While President George H. W. Bushs actions in the first Gulf War, 1990-91, were a rare exception in Americas Post-World War II military actions in actually accomplishing our original mission, mainstream Saudi Arabian Muslims saw our presence in their nation as defiling the Muslim holy lands, particularly in light of the next item.), (4) The modern Secularist crusade against the Islam of the Quran (Almost without exception, Muslims are very conservative in terms of personal morality, even when they live in the West, and they see efforts to change them as a personal attack on their religion and their families.), (5) Western support for the nation of Israel (If we understand that the word Islam means submission in Arabic, that the land that comprises Israel had been Muslim land from the time that Jerusalem was conquered four years after Muhammads death (with the brief exception of the Crusader kingdoms), and that the Temple Mount in Jerusalem is the third holiest site in Islam (right after Mecca and Medina), then we will understand that there will be no peace with Muslims who follow the Quran until Israel ceases to exist as a Jewish nation, and the Jews and Christians submit to Muslim rule again.). Of course, I am not defending Islam in citing these five things, but I do believe it is important that we understand that these things are issues for the overwhelming majority of Muslims, whether they live in the West or in the Middle East and North Africa. These things dont simply represent the views of the radicals. But they do provide the outrage that young Muslim men often feel, especially those living in the West. I hope that helps us understand that we are in very perilous times. Bob/Robert Benn Vincent, Sr.
