WHY THEY ARE FEARLESS... Episode 30: HOWARD SMITH I first met - TopicsExpress

WHY THEY ARE FEARLESS... Episode 30: HOWARD SMITH I first met Howard Smith in NYC at the Jerry Orbach Theater during the Off-Broadway run of SRSL... He came to dee his friend Dawn Gaylardo who had talked up the show and if that is any indication of what kind of friend Howard is, that should at least set the tone... Howard was quite complimentary of the show when I met with him in the lobby that night, and the fact that he was still chuckling led me to believe he enjoyed himself. He expressed interest in joining the company and did so that week with a shining recommendation from Ms.Gaylardo, a recommendation which, by the way, I can honestly say was justified and validated by the kind of involvement and positive effect Howard has had on the Fearless Family... Howards first chance to shine came with our Mainstage production of To Kill a Mockingbird where Mr. Smith protrayed a superb Bob Ewell in characterization much to the opposite of his own true self... Bob Ewell is possibly the least likable character in classic literature, and Howard did so with perfection, but off stage, he is quite the opposite of Bob in all respects; Helpful...Hard-working....Supportive... Jolly... Generous.....Kind.... Howard was there for all three build days of TKAM and equipped with tools and a can-do attitude that left an ingrained impression on many more than just myself. Immediately following the production, Howard auditioned for James Walsh and our upcoming UCPAC Main Stage production of A Seussified Christmas Carol where he landed the leading role of yet another classic villain...Scrooge himself...! So we know the man can act, and we know he can weild the tools of more trades than most, but what strikes a resonant chord with me is what level of support Howard offers this company as a whole... Quick to comment a reassuring additive on the pages, quick to respond to a members need for help, and quick to the defense of any and all he calls family... So as we bring this Fearless Friday to a close, I offer an on-line standing ovation to a man who is as Stand-Up as they come...Howard Smith.....Thanks for Playing Nice and Being Fearless... Fearlessly Yours... BR
