WHY VOTE YES TO Destination Bayfront #2 of 5 The most - TopicsExpress

WHY VOTE YES TO Destination Bayfront #2 of 5 The most compelling argument against DB is that we need to fix our streets before we do something that is a frill. It plays on the emotion of everyone with a pothole on their street. IF DB FAILS, NOT ONE STREET WILL BE FIXED FASTER OR INSTEAD. This important to stress because the opposition group to DB is hanging their hat on the emotional argument that DB is taking street money away from the citys ability to fix street. Since your street has a pothole, we cant do something different. But this is a lie. If your street has a pothole it will be fixed from the general budget (or, specifically, the street maintenance portion of the budget). There is not enough money to fix your pothole. That sucks but is the reality of our city. So, where is the money coming from to build DB if there is not enough money to fix your pothole? This is a bond election that means that bonds will be sold and the money raised will go to the project. If DB is voted down today that money will not be raised. People believe (and are being led to believe) that this money exists and will go to DB instead of other things. That is not true. Our streets are in the condition they are in after decades of neglect. It will take decades to fix them and a lot of money that does not exist, currently, to fix them. DB is designed to revitalize downtown, get property around the area and then into downtown used, developed and the values up. Those increased property values raise the amount of tax income, and then we have more money in the general fund to fix your pothole. DB helps everyone win. Yes, the above is complicated, but the opposition to DB is relying on the complexity of it to feed you a simple slogan to buy into your emotional response to our crappy streets. Vote YES and silence them. Raise the entire tide and all our boats will rise.
