WHY VOTERS SHOULD BE CONCERNED WITH THE SC&C ARREARS IN ALJUNIED - TopicsExpress

WHY VOTERS SHOULD BE CONCERNED WITH THE SC&C ARREARS IN ALJUNIED TOWN COUNCIL According to the report, Aljunied’s S&CC arrears rate rose from 2.6 per cent in FY10 to 8.4 per cent in FY11 and FY12, after Aljunied merged with Hougang. As at end April 2013, its S&CC arrears rate had further increased to 29.4 per cent. From May 2013, the TC stopped submitting its monthly S&CC arrears reports altogether, despite repeated reminders. As MND says this is of grave concern but it is of even greater concern to voters and Singapore as a whole if the WP has pretensions of being an alternative Government. Why? Because this is a sign that it has a tendency to be populist at the expense of the financial health of its town council. Just imagine if the Workers Party were to apply the same financial management principles to Singapore as a whole, and not collect taxes, and fines, and license fees in order to win the favour of voters - to show it is compassionate - what will happen to Singapores finances? It is easy to play the good guy, to allow people to not to pay whilst the accounts go deeper and deeper in debt. On the other hand, the PAP looks like a cold, uncompassionate party when it takes people to court for owing SC&C money. But ask yourselves - if people continue not paying, is it fair on those who pay? And more importantly, who will pay the deficit? It is precisely this sort of behaviour that have got European governments into financial bankruptcy, borrowing money to make up deficit, to give welfare benefits to voters, which runs up greater deficits, which leads to more borrowing. The Workers Party is showing these very same tendencies in the financial management of their Town Council. Voters be warned. Please share.
