WHY WE STOPPED THE INQUIRY ON THE STANDARD GAUGE RAILWAY LAND ACQUISITION This morning Kibwezi MP Hon Musimba and myself stopped the inquiries being conducted by the National Land Commission at Makindu. The notices on the inquiry were not properly issued. Secondly the exercise for legitimate and adequate compensation under the law turned out to be a market for negotiations between the land owners and National Land Commission officials. No one was told that they are required to carry out valuations of their land in order to provide material for the inquiry. If the compensation figures are exchanged at the whims of the parties, why then call for an inquiry. Dr. Musimba and I will meet the National Land Commission and officials of Kenya Railways tomorrow (Wednesday). We WILL STALL the process until the people of Makueni are given their rightful compensation for their land...!
