WICLIFFE, OHIO Wickliffe police are searching for two, possibly three, suspects in an attempted armed robbery early Monday morning in Wickliffe. At 4:25 a.m., Wickliffe police responded to the McDonald’s at 28711 Euclid Ave. Two female employees, who are 24 and 21 years old, reported that they were walking into the building to begin work when they were approached by two black males, said Wickliffe Police Lt. Pat Hengst. The suspects demanded money from the women and told them not to run or they would be shot. One woman ran into the restaurant and was followed by one of the suspects. She then ran out of a different exit and the male remained inside, said Hengst. The other female employee stayed outside and the remaining suspect kept demanding money from her. She refused, telling him she did not have any money, said Hengst. Both suspects allegedly were armed with a black semi-automatic type handgun, he said. At this time, a possible third suspect, who was not seen by either woman, yelled for the men to hurry up. The suspects then fled the scene. Meanwhile, the woman who had ran inside the McDonald’s flagged down a passing Wickliffe police cruiser on Euclid Avenue. The officer checked the area, including inside the restaurant, but did not locate any suspects. K-9 units also searched the area without success, Hengst said. The suspect that remained outside of the McDonald’s was described as a 20-year-old black male wearing blue jeans, black boots and a black hooded sweatshirt that was pulled tightly over his face. The suspect who followed the woman into the restaurant was described as a light-skinned black male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and black pants, standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing between 120 pounds and 130 pounds. Nothing was stolen and no one was injured during the incident. Detectives are reviewing possible surveillance footage from nearby businesses to determine if the suspects may have been caught on video. Authorities are also looking into a possible connection with a reported armed robbery last week of a True North Shell Station in Willoughby Hills, Hengst said. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Wickliffe Police Department at 440-943-1234.
