WILD CARDS 1 - AND NEWS OF THE BLOB! Today we feature the first of two Wild Cards - photos that scored enough points to qualify for the SOSJ 2014 Top 20. However, because we wanted to include as many photographers as possible, we asked the photographers concerned if we could keep their highest scoring shots only to put into the Top 20 and they very kindly agreed. So we have created a special category to show the images and thank the photographers for their generosity of spirit. The first two photos (in no particular order) are from Kay Patrick, with Sunset over Noirmont Point and John Ovendens Dolphins playing off the South East Coast. More Wild Cards soon! NEWS OF THE BLOB! Readers may remember last year that Jacqui Carrel (photographer and webmistress for SOSJ) famously captured The Blob as it has become known at St. Aubins Bay following a dreadful storm last winter. SOSJ moles at TTS investigated, and it was revealed that the Blob had evolved and mutated from toxic ash leaking into the Lagoon at the La Collette Reclamation site and escaped when the waves pushed it over the rock bund. Nearly a year on, contributor John Ovenden sent us a photo which we published recently of an angler fishing into a wall of spray a few yards from the White House at St. Ouen. A few minutes later the spray parted to reveal what we think is a Blobette, the Blobs mate. (You can tell it is a female from the slime extensions). The creature sank back into the waves with no trace. Have they consummated their union yet? Will we experience a plague of bloblings in due course? The Blobette at the White House can be viewed here: sosjersey.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/blobette.jpg
