WILDFLOWER MEADOW ON FLE **YOUR HELP APPRECIATED** --------------------------------------- On the corner of Jarrow Rd (by the red bannistered stair case), we have a wildflower meadow. Each September the meadow is cut and, in order for it to remain nutrient poor, ideal for wildflower growth, the cuttings need to be raked up afterwards. Would you like to lend a hand? The site is home to, and foraged by, a number of species.including birds, but also invertebrates. Also, I should imagine, small mammals, though I havent seen the latter, (probably nocturnal activity). The long grasses and flowers make it ideal for essential cover and foraging. Last year, for example, was a bumper year for pollinators on the site --- including so many bees and large numbers of damselflies. We have Shirley, our hard working and very informative grounds person, but cutting and raking is really too much just for one person. Can you spare an hour or two? If so, please drop me a line here, or email me. SHIRLEY WILL BE CUTTING THE MEADOW THE WEEK BEGINNING 1ST SEPTEMBER. RAKING IS NEEDED IN MID SEPTEMBER. THIS WILL GIVE ENOUGH TIME FOR SEED TO PROPERLY FALL TO THE GROUND. So... MID SEPTEMBER PLEASE, Huge thanks in advance. Jeanette FLAG Nature Rep. for Ferry Lane Estate wildlifeloveruk@gmail
