WILLY BRANDT´S DEATH ANNIVERSARY On October 8th, 1992 died one of the most excellent German politicians, German Chancellor and the recipient of the Peace Nobel Prize of 1971, Willy Brandt. He was most the most impressive leader that the post-war Germany ever had and a unrelenting follower of the Social-Democratic philosophy. He was also the man who in a split of a second pushed aside hundreds of years of Polish-German animosity but first and foremost sought forgiveness with the Jews of the world as well as proved that simply saying sorry and acting accordingly can partly heal even such horrid wounds like those inflicted by WW2. By dropping to his knees in front of the Memorial of The Victims of The Warsaw Ghetto, exactly on the spot from which the Jews imprisoned inside the ghetto were transported to the death camps of Auschwitz and Treblinka, he, a German who lived through the war opposing Hitler and the Nazi terror, did more for bringing peace among people than all the other big-talking politicians did. Willy Brandt was a giant. And he remains a personal hero.
